[edit] Expanding artice

This article should be expanded to give an overview of the whole experience of the road trip. See backpacking for an idea of what I mean. rasblue 20:43, 2 July 2006 (UTC)

Absolutely! --Amit 05:56, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

Articles should be very well expanded, I have to write a report on a road trip, and it would be useful to know when they were invented. Or to get some good quips on what they are. -Paintblock

I'm not really up to the task of revising this article, but I suggest two works related to roadtrips by Jack Kerouac that might help flesh out the article: • On the Road, which glamorized Kerouac's on road trip experience in a semi-fictional novel. • "The Americans" a photo book by Swiss expatriate Robert Frank's . Frank criss-crossed the USA by car to create a social portrait of America. The introduction was written by Jack Kerouac.

[edit] Incorrect Article

This article should be re-written to discuss the concept of Roadtripping as a hobby, and not about a movie genre. A separate article should be written to discuss Road trip movies. I would be willing to re-write this article and create a separate article on the Road Trip as a genre if everyone else is okay about it. Anyone have any comments? Cascadia 06:30, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

I, along with another person, will be rewriting this article over the next couple of days to bring it back on topic. Cascadia 20:01, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

A rewrite of the article is complete. Additional information, formatting, etc. is definately needed, but this is a good start as it is much more on track than the origional article. Thank you to the members of the Great American Roadtrip Forum at roadtripamerica.com for assisting with sources.Cascadia 02:35, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Road Movies vs. Road Trip

Any information regarding Road Trips as a movie genre should be included on Road movies, and not on Road trip. It is not encyclopedic to have two articles about the same thing, one being of proper title and the other masking itself as an article about Road trips. I have completely rewritten Road trip to be completely about Road trips as a method of travel and leisure, and not about the genre. Cascadia 03:35, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Appalachian Trail

The Appalachian Trail really should not be included as a sample road trip, as it is, of course, a hiking trail, not a road to drive on. For the southern Appalachians, at least, a better choice would be the combination of the Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway.Apace361 (talk) 06:05, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Dinosaur Comics mention

This article gets poked fun of in the latest Dinosaur Comics [1]: "'It is not known exactly when Road Trips were ‘invented’, but technically they have been around as long as people have had roads to travel and vehicles to travel with.' HEY THERE, THANKS WIKIPEDIA" -- MacAddct  1984 (talkcontribs) 15:28, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

Yes, and the article's actually full of original research like that. For instance, who came up with the arbitrary 8 classifications? Superm401 - Talk 01:07, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
What? That comic contains no such line. 24.141.8.20 (talk) 18:03, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

[edit] "Dashboarding"?

Could the individual who added the singularly unhelpful reference (and nonexistent wikilink) to "Dashboarding" be troubled to explain what it means? Cactus Wren (talk) 12:02, 11 July 2010 (UTC)
