Untitled[edit]

I do not see Robert Leckie as being politically incorrect because of his view on Native Americans, but rather his sexist views, expressed in his book "A Few Acres of Snow" -AmericanColumbia

Battle of Fallen Timbers[edit]

In Lackie's book THE WARS of AMERICA (1968) page 224, he has stated "They [the Indians] were retreating to the Canadian fort [Fort Miamis] and had turned to fight at Fallen Timbers, a wide swath which a tornado had cut in the woods northwest of present-day Defiance".

I am disputing the word "northwest" in favor of northeast. The battleground was in present-day Lucas County between Maumee and Waterville. The chronology of the event is generally accepted as August 20, 1794.

Northwest of Defiance is a village called Brunersburg. It was struck by an F4 tornado on March 28, 1920. By no means should this event be linked with Gen. Anthony Wayne's campaign of 1793-94. Musicwriter 20:37, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rank[edit]

Was Robert Lackie really a General? He was described as a machine gunner (not a commander) and his name is not found at List of United States Marine Corps four-star generals. Does anyone know his actual terminal grade? Pen of bushido (talk) 17:31, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

So far as I can tell Leckie was a PFC at the end of the war. Certainly not a General.

Error on service ribbons[edit]

How can a Marine be awarded that Fleet Marine Force Combat Operation Insignia thing?Foofbun (talk) 09:34, 30 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Robert Leckie is also probably entitled to wear the Combat Action Ribbon —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gar93274 (talkcontribs) 05:51, 31 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Small Error[edit]

Given that the 1st Marine Division did not participate in the Battle of Iwo Jima, it's probably unnecessary and misleading to say that Leckie participated in every one of the 1st Marine Division's campaigns "except Okinawa and Iwo Jima." --72.73.16.235 (talk) 14:36, 11 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Another error (that I'll check on soon)....he did not enlist in the USMC on the day after Pearl. In fact, he tells a very funny story about being rejected because he was not circumcised (yes...I have to reread "Helmet for my Pillow" to verify this). After being rejected, he went to the doctor, got circumcised, and then went back to enlist "already having received my first wound!". "Helment" is quite funny in places.

The 1st Marine Division received three Presidential Unit Citations for World War II, Guadalcanal, Peleliu, and Okinawa not the five shown. Additionally Leckie was present for three of the operations in the Asiatic-Pacific Area, Guadalcanal, New Britain(Cape Gloucester), and Peleliu not the five shown.MKilty (talk) 17:27, 27 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
