Myths and legends

I would like to talk (discuss) with Ron White. I think he is hilarious, but I believe he is a very intelligent person. I know even people who drink alot are sometimes smarter than they want people to know. I hope he is happily married, now. Jo (female)

I don't know whether to believe he is happily married or divorced. He claimed to be both at different times in his routine. He seems smart enough to want to fabricate his world for the audience even if it means he reverses what he already said. So I wonder if he was really married and got divorced for the reasons he said. Those things are so real, the thermostat conflict, etc. Too hilarious. - Elaine

He explains this in his Myspace blog at: http://www.myspace.com/ron_white under the title "Interview with Bullz-Eye.com". He said it was not a divorce, but a "break-up" of a serious relationship. I do NOT know for certain, as he seems to gaurd his privacy closely, but in the final Blue Collar movie (One For The Road), they show pictures of each other in real life at various points in time that are humorous, and the explanation from Foxworthy is that each picture was secretly obtained from the WIVES of each of the men by the producers of the movie. This explanation MAY also be fabricated, but there is no way to know for sure. Ubergenius 14:25, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

EDIT: Now, on this website, http://www.inweekly.net/article.asp?artID=307 , it mentions his wife in response to previous rumors of his death. "The comedian's wife Barbara chimes into the death discussion. 'The last rumor was he died from a suicide,' she says. 'We even had to put on the front page of his Web site that he's not dead.'"

Does the story about his bit on Tater Salad belong in this article? It's essentially a paraphrasing of a section of his stand-up routine, and it doesn't seem to me that it belongs in a Wikipedia article. Let me know what you think. Dylan 22:53, 31 October 2005 (UTC)

It suffers from the stand-up comic's unreliable narrator problem - many comics will preface a story like this with 'this is a true story'. I assumed when I heard the routine that it was just a joke, but reading it here made me think it might be true! It's possible, but perhaps it would be best to say "Ron White tells this story:". When the term "true story" is used, one needs to be prepared for it to be just that- a story. The word 'true' need not actually denote that it actually happened, but that it is actually a story (or fable). This technique of story telling has been used by many, including the Coen Brothers.

Is there any chance of pulling this supposed police record from public records requests? As the comedy bit goes, the alias is "in the system" (presumably NCIC) available to traffic cops. Wouldn't this be verifiable by the general public? - 67.0.233.223 (talk) 17:41, 6 July 2018 (UTC)

Is Ron White really a satirist? Comedian, yes. But, I don't know about a satirist. Swatson1978 20:11, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

I agree he is not a true satirist, but there are elements of satire in some of his routines. It's not very easy to classify a comedic style. Ubergenius 19:33, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

Vietnam Veteran

How could Ron White have fought in Vietnam if he was just turning 18 as the war ended?

Agreed - I was born in 1954 and was too young to go to Vietnam. This cannot be true.

US offensive combat operations ended on 27 January 1973, about seven weeks after Ron White turned 16. There was a huge draw down in US military personnel between that date and the final end of US involvement in Vietnam on 30 April 1975. IF White had enlisted in the service on or very close to his 17th birthday (December 1973), it is possible -- but not probable -- that he might have been sent overseas right after training to the remnants of MACV in Saigon (or nearby). However, it's highly doubtful -- virtually impossible -- that he would have seen any combat. There was plenty of opportunity for thse in Vietnam to engage in heavy drug use, when ever they were there; but I note that he claimed that he developed a drug problem from "fighting" in the war. In sum, White's claim seems to be a bit of an exaggeration. Wijid 02:37, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

The only written info I have seen about his military service (the Punchline article in the References) does not mention Vietnam. I have reworded that section of this article in accordance. From your comments here, I suspect he may have stated otherwise on camera or in his book - if so, please cite it. The magazine info is both citable and less unbelievable, so I feel it should remain until we can cite something else. Maralia 16:33, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

I have removed the "controversy" section from the article, as Wikipedia isn't here to debunk claims made by individuals -- see "No original research"; further, anything you put in an article needs to be cited with a reliable source. For what it's worth, White probably does qualify as a "Vietnam-era veteran" under federal law (this says anyone who served in the military 180 days between 1964 and 1975 qualifies, regardless of where one served), so there's no need to make guesses about where in the world Ron White was 32 years ago. If you find an article in a reliable source that investigates this issue, then that would probably be worth noting here; otherwise, please confine additions to this article to those that fall within Wikipedia policies. --SuperNova |T|C| 06:42, 25 December 2007 (UTC)

You can't fix stupid

Let's look at this.

"White is well-known for his famous punchline, "...You can't fix stupid."

How is that a 'famous punchline' of Ron White's? The man says it maybe once in an entire stand-up special. The only reason he said it then was because it was the name of said special. In fact, if you follow the cite tag after that, it just leads to a page of quotes from that special -- where a quick little search reveals that he says it one time and one time only.
