content section sucks[edit]

The content section reads really badly and makes assumptions. "After a minute or so, a door opens and he is interrupted by someone who appears to be his father. During this, Johnny is out of his delusion and is shown sitting upright in the wheelchair, turning to look. His father opens the room's door, yells at him unintelligibly, and slams the door." Who ever said anything about it being his father??? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.96.128.207 (talk) 22:40, 21 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

wikipedia editors might want to include this info[edit]

Rubber Johnny was originally a sideproject name of the Rephlex Records artist JP Buckle, he released a 4 song demo under the name 'jamrolypoly' which was been verified as being him years before this video was made. dont know how important this is to this article, but it might be useful in order to eliminate some confusion. -shawn phase

info on how he made it[edit]

Basically, he started work on this in 2001. So he spent almost 4 years working on a 6 minute clip. Basically every frame is done by hand and syncronized to the music. I love it too. Gotta check out the DVD version it's so much better than the ebaums because of the level of detail. Kfort 00:28, 18 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Cunningham as Johnny?[edit]

It says on the page that Johnny was played by Chris Cunningham but on the IMDb page it says he is played by Richard D. James, which is right and which is wrong?@

Chris says in an interview that he played the part of Johnny - that's probably the truth.--Easterlingman 13:44, 1 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Cover image[edit]

Absolutely love the video, but the cover image could be a bit of a shock to someone who isn't expecting it (just as nasty, IMO, as the links, which in contrast carry a warning on them). I'm not suggesting that it be taken off, but maybe links to this article should have this warning as well. Fooby 14:34, 11 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. I found it quite a shock. Especially when compared to the website itself, which is much more modest in presentation. JamesLikesBeer 21:24, 30 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see anything shocking in it. If you want to see shocking, check Dawn Of The Black Hearts. // Gargaj 01:19, 31 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
At least you can make out what that is, which to me at least, doesn't make it as disturbing. The Rubber Johnny DVD cover is something more of a birth defect / freakshow / crime against nature deformity. Nagelfar 16:20, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You can't really remove the image because Wikipedia is not censored. - WP:NOT. Douglasr007 02:29, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The image should stay, it can be seen by anyone on DVD/Video stands anyway. - dogbomb 11:25, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

As the OP mentioned it should be tagged with a warning. Nobody said that it should be removed. So the last two comments don't get the actual topic. Yantrix (talk) 17:02, 13 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

EH..dvd cover[edit]

What is that anyway?

Looks like a double-butt which has been deformed... I can't really tell what I'm looking at. :D Nidht (talk) 06:02, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Remove Most of synopsis?[edit]

Everything writen after the "spoiler warning" sounds like an excited, out-of-breath friend trying to explain a weird music video he just saw. Do we really need a clumsy play-by-play on special effects eye candy? Grinick 1/20/06 2:30 AM

I agree completely with your comment and disagree completely with the interpretation put forth by the out-of-breath friend, whom we shall call HappyPuppy, for ease of nomenclature. HappyPuppy is obviously a POV pushing fan who left white stains in his underwear over the clip. I personally disagree with HappyPuppy and think it was crap and far less can possibly be read into it than he ascertains. 211.30.71.59 15:58, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The whole synopsis is 4 short paragraphs; not too much for a music video. // Gargaj 17:50, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

External Links[edit]

Do we REALLY need a link to a search of "rubber johnny" on google? Grinick 1/20/06 14:12

I don't think so either, it doesn't add value so I was bold and removed it JamesLikesBeer 21:24, 30 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

i'm horrified..;[edit]

i'm horryfied by the art book whith the dvd; it really is crazy, mr cunningham seems to be a little funny in the head, but it's so artisticly done!!! One may not like it but have to admit how crazy is this photo work mecanicule 02/2006

Criminal act or viral advertising?[edit]

I'm confused about the line: "Whether this was a criminal act or a viral advertising campaign is as of yet unknown." Whether what, exactly, was a criminal act? The taping of the video? Snopes.com debunking the possibility it was a real person? The video's appearance on snopes.com could certainly be considered a viral advertising campaign, though. Due to the ambiguity of the line, I decided to be bold and just remove it. Nortelrye 16:36, 25 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • It was presumably about the video being spread thru the internet in free download, etc. // Gargaj 19:41, 25 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Synopsis[edit]

Is it from the booklet? The credits in the video give Percy Rutterford credits as "voice of the father", the article synopsis seems to imply that this is when the door is opened during the music of the video; but that just sounds like a TV on in the background to me. What the synopsis says is the 'doctor' talking to the young Rubber Johnny in the beginning however isn't credited as far as I've noticed; is this maybe the father credited to Percy Rutterford? Nagelfar 16:26, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Also, the line "…the dog eating food from his dish…", seems more like the dog is taking a drink from a bowl to me. Nagelfar 16:43, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Picture[edit]

It need a warning before it

Terrifying[edit]

  • Finally watched this the other night... freaking terrifying... I can only watch it now while listening to silly music concurrently, like Particle Man or Love Shack or something... Wickethewok 04:21, 16 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You're kidding? I don't think my facial expression stirred from a constant state of stoic skepticism. 211.30.71.59 10:00, 14 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Download Link[edit]

The download link is to an unreliable spammy site where it is presented in flash form. As this flick has been released from copyright, any chance of someone linking us a more reliable copy? Would love to review it. 211.30.71.59 06:12, 14 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Great bloody dissapointment that was.[edit]

Much ado about nothing, leeched this and reviewed it. Made an ammendment to the article regarding the 'balloon' the condom was being pulled off, which is clearly the same penis dangling between the legs of 'Rubber Johnny' throughout the clip where he's spazzing out.

I believe this article focuses too much of airy fairy artistic interpretation by the subjective authors. The film depicts a wheelchair bound human wearing an oversized prosthetic head who commences to spazz out (similar to the freak-flicker used by Marilyn Manson in many clips, al la House on Haunted Hill) with cut scenes to a chihuahua. Was really boring actually, not such a 'weird out there spacey freak out' type arthouse disaster as it was alledged to be. Looks like some kid shot it with his dads NV camcorder in the basement. Perhaps a bit more neutrality in this article is needed to save on dissapointed viewers. :P 211.30.71.59 09:58, 14 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

X-Play[edit]

Should it be noted in X-Play the musical, the game created was what appeared to be Rubber Johnny?

Yells Unintelligibly[edit]

Anyone notice that the shouting heard is very similar to the some of the shouting heard in Pink Floyd's Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together? This looks like some rather interesting trivia that no-one seems to have picked up.

IMDb[edit]

We have two links to the IMDb entry on Rubber Johnny. One is on the sidebar, one is in External Links. Shall I remove it? 71.231.56.40 21:55, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, almost all film articles have two imdb links (infobox and external links), so I'd say it's better to leave it the way it is. -Wutschwlllm 17:29, 8 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Description only describes the second half of the video[edit]

Why does the description omit all the part with the doctor? --uKER (talk) 17:41, 9 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Notability?[edit]

This article does not cite any sources for its information and does not have anything that shows that this short video is notable enough to deserve an article on it. If possible, this article needs citation for its information. If there is only one source worth citing or none at all then this article should be deleted.--Paleface Jack (talk) 16:17, 28 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
