What does that mean?[edit]

I don't like to delete other people's posts from a discussion page. But what does the above mean? JohnClarknew 21:30, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

Contested paragraph[edit]

I deleted this paragraph from the Criticism section, User:Beyond My Ken restored it, apparently finding the motivation in my edit summary to be unclear. So I'll elaborate.

"More general interpretation of Joan's character is to describe her as a rebel against general institutional authority, such as that of the Catholic Church and to the feudal system.^[1] Contemporary comments have noted her particularly strong form of religious belief and how it borders on religious fanaticism.^[2]"

The problem here is the following. This passage is clearly trying to criticize Shaw for portraying Joan as a rebel against church authority, basing its criticism on the fact that Joan was known to be very religious. However:

1. There is no contradiction between being very religious and rebelling against church authority. (In case this is not self-evident - Martin Luther and numerous others have rebelled against their contemporary religious authorities, while considering themselves to be, if anything, more religious than the authorities they were rebelling against.)

2. Even if there really were a contradiction, that would still be original research, because this criticism of Shaw is not attributed to anyone. The juxtaposition of Shaw's story and the historical accounts was obviously done by a wiki editor. --91.148.130.233 (talk) 18:59, 7 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
