Please use inline citations from reliable sources[edit]

This is a biography if a living person.

To ensure that information is not removed because of a lack of a citation, please use in-line citations in this article.

To ensure that information is not removed because it is not clearly backed by a reliable source, please read WP:Reliable sources and use only reliable sources in this article.

Please do note remove citation-related templates until the article is cited with inline citations as required by Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 16:16, 20 November 2013 (UTC)

Notability is still not clear[edit]

The notability of this person is not clear. The only things in the article that may indicate that he is notable are:

  • Controversies. Most controversies do not have the significant coverage from reliable sources needed to demonstrate notability but some do.
  • His two awards. It is unclear if these awards are "major" awards like the Oscars or if they are less-well-known awards that would not by themselves indicate that this person is notable.
  • His overall career. It is unclear if any of his works, individually or taken as a whole, would show that he meets the notability criteria for creative professionals.

Due in large part to the the lack of inline citations I do not see enough significant coverage from reliable, independent sources (most of the sources at the end do not qualify as "reliable, independent" sources) to convince me that this person meets Wikipedia's notability guidelines. Until they do, I will not remove the "notability" template and I will restore it if it is removed (again) without discussing it first. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 16:25, 20 November 2013 (UTC)

Again, please do not remove cleanup templates like "notability" until the issues have been addressed or at least discussed. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 04:23, 28 November 2013 (UTC)

Nomination of Kaappi marangalkkidayile penkutty for deletion[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Kaappi marangalkkidayile penkutty is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Kaappi marangalkkidayile penkutty until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

The recommended outcome is that the article be turned into a redirect to Sankar (film director) with history kept, with prejudice against re-creation (see WP:CSD#G4) unless reliable sources demonstrating notability are provided. Other outcomes acceptable to the nominator are: Redirect without history being kept, outright deletion.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 19:11, 20 November 2013 (UTC)

Call for consistency[edit]

While Wikipedia page names and naming conventions dictate that the page name is Sankar (film director), other uses of his name throughout the encyclopedia should be either completely consistent with each other or consistent within a similar scope.

I'm not familiar with this person, but if in his professional life, he goes by v.r.sankar, all lowercase, no space after the periods, then that is the name that should be used in almost all occurrences within Wikipedia. The exceptions would include

  • Technical issues, such as wikilinks to an existing page or image file. The actual page or file name must be used. Such links can, however, be piped in the form of [[Sankar (film director)|v.r.sankar]]
  • The second or subsequent use of the name in an article, section, or paragraph about him. In these cases, Wikipedia conventions suggest using his last name, capitalized, i.e. Sankar or [[Sankar (film director)|Sankar]]
  • Within references. Follow existing reference conventions.
  • Within non-readable/non-printable areas or other areas where technical or existing conventions dictate otherwise, such as {{Persondata}}, {{DEFAULTSORT}}, and in talk page header templates, the listas= parameter.
  • Any time the person is discussed outside of a professional context, either use his full name, Vijayamma Rajappan Sankar or some standard shortened form, such as Sankar, V. R. Sankar, Vijayama R. Sankar, Vijayama Sankar, V. Sankar, as appropriate for the context. Only use v.r.sankar if not doing so would confuse the reader and the harm done by using his professional name is less than the harm done by the confusion.
  • If he has more than one form for his professional name, use the form that is most appropriate for that article, but be consistent within that article unless there is a good reason to use both forms. For example, the article about him should list all of his commonly-known names unless they are obvious derivatives of each other (e.g. if his professional name was V. R. Sankar instead of v.r.sankar there would be no need to list that, as it is an obvious derivative of his full name).
  • In short, please either use Sankar, v.r.sankar, or another common professional name throughout the encyclopedia except where technical or existing style conventions dictate otherwise.

By the way, I put the names above in bold for emphasis. I do not mean to suggest that his name should be bold throughout the encyclopedia. In most cases, people's names are not in bold in Wikipedia except in specific situations. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 16:48, 21 December 2013 (UTC)

For the record, what are his common professional names and in what contexts (e.g. film director, fictional written works, etc.), what time periods of his career did he use them, and what target markets did he use them in? As an example, Dr. Suess used that name in his children's works, but he used other professional names in other contexts. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 16:53, 21 December 2013 (UTC)

Notability, again[edit]

The text says

He received the Holy Faith Television Award for the TV programme 'Priyappetta mammootty'. He also got the Mahatmaji Kathasamanam for the year 1998.

These claims need to be substantiated with an in-line citation to a reliable source. Also, it is not clear if these awards are major awards like the Oscars which pretty much anyone who has one is notable, or a minor award that is either not an indicator of notability or only a minor one.

Of course, the gold standard would be significant coverage of this person in independent, reliable sources. "Run of the mill" coverage, promotional coverage, minor mentions, and the like don't demonstrate notability. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 22:54, 23 December 2013 (UTC)

I went back and reviewed the listed references. Some were dead, including the web page for Streetlight. One was temporarily unreachable. The rest didn't provide significant coverage about Sankar himself. Therefore, I am proposing that this article be deleted. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 23:05, 23 December 2013 (UTC)

References lack depth[edit]

Some of the references are dead. The combined English text of all remaining references lacks significant coverage of the subject. The one reference that has significant content that is not in English is the author's blog. The non-English content consists of book covers and movie posters. Such content is presumably promotional for the books or movies and is likely promotional for the authors, directors, and other major players in those works. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 23:38, 30 December 2013 (UTC)

Merge in Sankar's non-notable works into Sankar (film director)[edit]

There is no evidence that the newly-created and re-created articles about this author's works meet Wikipedia's notability criteria (see WP:Notability and the specialized notability criteria mentioned on that page). In some cases, previous versions of these articles were deleted as proposed deletions or were deleted "softly" (as if they were a proposed deletion) through an articles for deletion discussion. It is unclear if these re-creations were "from scratch" or if they were re-created from an off-Wiki copy of the original. Rather than nominate them all for deletion under "articles for deletion," I am going to start a discussion here. If this discussion does not have an obvious "merge" or "don't merge" consensus within a month or so or there is simply no discussion within a month or so, I will likely formally nominate these articles for deletion with a recommended outcome of "merge" rather than "delete."

Note: Oru valakilukkathinte Oarmakku has been nominated for deletion. See Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Oru valakilukkathinte Oarmakku. The outcome of a deletion discussion generally (or always?) supersedes that of a merger discussion. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 02:12, 10 May 2014 (UTC)
