Sawtelle is not an unincorporated community. The unincorporated community is the Veterans Administration. Sawtelle is a Japaneese cultural area. Does anyone agree with me.

Do you have a source? Which city is Sawtelle incorporated into? -Willmcw 02:45, 24 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
He or she is referencing the Sawtelle we describe in Sawtelle, Los Angeles, California#Alternate meaning, which is, I'm pretty sure, a part of the city of Los Angeles. Frankly that's what I always think of when I hear Sawtelle, but I've been schooled here at Wikipedia about the other meanings. jengod 07:36, 24 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The article in it's current form is confusing because it is inconsistent with itself. The top of the article describes Sawtelle as a neighborhood in Los Angeles, but the remainder of the article describes Sawtelle as the unincorporated area around the Veteran's Administration. There is obviously some confusion as to what the area bound by Wilshire Blvd, the Santa Monica city limits, the 10 and the 405 should be called. Thomas Guide and the LA Almanac call this area Sawtelle. The Los Angeles Department of City Planning, however, calls the area West LA Neighborhood Council. The West Los Angeles article claims that that neighborhood has the same borders as this neighborhood does. So who's right? Is there a way to address this uncertainty gracefully in the article(s)? Also, this article says that Westwood borders Sawtelle to the east, but Westwood does not officially "begin" until north of Wilshire Blvd. I'm not sure what to call the southern eastern-bordering area, considering there is so much conflicting info in the West L.A. article. Complete revision of the Sawtelle page[edit]

I have uploaded a complete revision of the Sawtelle page. Feel free to replace the missing material or add new stuff, but please cite your sources when you do so.

Please do not delete any of the new material without discussing the matter on this Talk page or communicating directly with me.

I have omitted much of the previously posted material because it lacked any attribution as to source. Anybody can repost it as long as there is an attribution along with it. Some of the details might be more appropriate on separate pages, such as the one for the Los Angeles National Cemetery. There should also be a page for Sawtelle Veterans Home if there is not one already.

In particular, I deleted all the references to private businesses within the Japanese-oriented Sawtelle Blvd. area because it amounted to free publicity (and these little operations go in and out of business all the time).

When you add or replace material, I would suggest placing it within the proper category on the page: There are three of them —(1) the largest area, which reaches all the way to Pico Blvd. and the Santa Monica line, (2) the unincorporated county area, and (3) the VA grounds and cemetery.

Assessment[edit]

I didn't see the earlier version, but this looks pretty good to me. I would have said it was a B article if it had an infobox and a current photo. It also seems that the Japanese-American history needs to be expanded (not by listing the businesses again), unless you think that should be done in the West Los Angeles article. The link that you left in has references to a couple of newspaper articles that look sufficient to source a section.--Hjal 04:17, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Little Osaka[edit]

Is this area really known as Little Osaka in Japan? We need a source. A Web search indicates there is an area in San Francisco also known as Little Osaka. Doubtful that both areas can be known as Little Osaka in Japan. So I deleted the reference. GeorgeLouis (talk) 04:41, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It is (sometimes) known as Little Osaka locally in L.A./on review sites, but I doubt it in Japan. I'm not sure what's a reasonable source for local alternate names. I lived here for a few years, and sometimes other residents would refer to it as Japantown, though it appears that's also an alternate name for Little Tokyo. Marilyn Monroe attended University High School[edit]

On the west la sawtelle page where movies are mentioned being filmed on the university high school campus, it should acknowledge the fact that Norma Jean Baker, better known as Marilyn Monroe attended this very school .
