WTF??[edit]

This guy from the crowd sits in with The Who some 35 years ago, does nothing else noteworthy that would cause him to be included in any encyclopedia (even this lame excuse for one), and he has a Wikipedia article. It figures.-24.197.2.22 (talk) 06:10, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Who has not, at some point in their life imagined that they were summoned to fill in for a professional as an unlikely amateur, at a critical time. He lived this moment. What a great story. I don't know; whatever the standards for "notability" and inclusion in wikipedia, I found and read this article, so it must have some worth. Not notable[edit]

Well, not notable enough for his own page, according to the guidelines at WP:MUSIC. However, he is certainly worthy of mention in a section on The Who page, or on a page about the tour. Just not for a page of his own. If it wasn't for this one event, noone would suggest he have a page of his own -- see WP:BLP1E or WP:ONEEVENT. (And don't suggest he's assassinated a political leader, or that his stand-in of the year award has the status of a Grammy or a Daytime Emmy or something....) Here's what the notability guidelines say: The topic of an article should be notable, or "worthy of notice"; that is, "significant, interesting, or unusual enough to deserve attention or to be recorded." Scot Halpin meets this requirement. The references are solid: Two separate articles in Rolling Stone and one from the SF Examiner. The Who article is packed, so much so that it has spun off a number of articles--this being one of them. Some authors have spent close to a thousand pages on just one of The Who members. Unless you want to get into that within Wikipedia, we're better off with different smaller articles.Pkeets (talk)

YouTube links?[edit]

I thought links to YouTube were generally discouraged on Wikipedia (WP:EL), particularly links to pirate videos not authorized by their owners. Don't get me wrong, I think the links to these remarkable moments of Scot Halpin winging it with The Who add tremendously to the value of the article - but they do violate current WP policy, don't they? —Blanchette (talk) 07:52, 21 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I thought audience shot videos on Youtube were audience owned. Unless the catalog owner has some objection to the songs being played at such low fidelity, then they're legit. The Who seems to consider them pretty good publicity. Pkeets (talk) 03:31, 30 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Smokestack Lightning[edit]

` Daltrey introduced him as "Scot", and went straight into the riff of "Smokestack Lightning ' This is an impossibility although probably an honest mistake..Daltry was the singer..he did not go into the riff..it was probably Townsend possibly Entwistle but most likely not..this is probably a typo but should be changed 2602:306:BD95:45F0:8D55:6293:A892:20E2 (talk) 20:40, 4 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
