area 2?[edit]

Forgive me if I am wrong but 2chome is not "area 2" of the shinjuku special ward. The ward itself is not divided into numbered areas. A more correct way to put it might be "Area 2 of the Shinjuku district of Shinjuku ward" but then that sounds much too technical. In any case, the distinction should be made between Shinjuku ward and the neighborhood of Shinjuku. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.29.137.163 (talk) 08:05, 15 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

discussion of the article[edit]

The changes made to the 2-chome page over the past 24 hours have been very good. Simply stating that there are 200-300 bars in the area without any background information was *VERY* misleading. Someone visiting from a western country with a large gay scene would think that Shinjuku is the uber mecca for queers. Hardly. Ni-chome is a fun place. But fun in its own way. Anyway, good work! Oh, that was me. And someone else. Well, anyway...

one or two or various[edit]

To Exploding Boy (and everyone else)

Well, I have only been in Tokyo for 10 years, so before that, I do not know of any gay restaurants in the 2-chome area. I only go to 2-chome about 2 or 3 times a month, and I certainly don't go to 2-cho for dinner. So, perhaps, I am not the best person to be writing about gay restaurants in 2-chome. That being said, the only gay restaurant I know in the area is Cocoro Cafe. There was also a Mexican restaurant, but, I don't think it's still there. Actually, I never visited the latter, so, I don't know if it was a gay restaurant or not. Are there others that I am unaware of? DDD DDD 12:44, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've gone and deleted 'various' from this sentence: >Besides the bars, the area is also home to gay restaurants ...

But, now that I think about it more, maybe the problem was not the word 'various' but the very next word 'gay'. Maybe, it would read better as: >Besides the bars, the area is also home to various restaurants ...

What do you think? DDD DDD 12:53, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think the second version is best. Certainly it's better than "one or two." Exploding Boy 17:39, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

wordings[edit]

I think some of the wording here can be misleading. I've made some changes... any thoughts?

EB. Did you consider any the changes I made before you reverted back to the older version? Or, did you just revert? 1)The Marunouchi subway line station is called Shinjuku Gyoenmae, so that change you stay. What do you think? 2) This >the area is also home to gay restaurants and cafes< is actually too vague. Whereas my change >the area is also home to a few gay restaurants and cafes< is much clearer. Cocolo's in 2-chome and Momo's in 3-chome are the only gay restaurants in the area as far as I know. So, 'a few' seems more accurate. 3) Most bars in 2-chome are small, or very small and so >At most bars in this area, patrons usually sit at a counter and< seems more accurate than >At the smaller bars in this area<. 4) What are the gay magazines that you will find at most establishments in 2-chome? G-men? Yes. Badi? Maybe. Both are monthly gay pornographic magazines. Are there others? 5) >Some establishments, in contrast, specifically target foreigners with.... < I think is misleading. We agree that Arty, Dragon, GB and Advocates Cafe, 4 establishments, seems like a handful to me, are places where gaijin congregate. The two paragraphs should stay together as 1. 6) The parade route changes I made are accurate and should stay. Or, perhaps, delete the entire note about the parade. 7) The changes I made to areas outside 2-chome were more descriptive and more accurate, not less. 8) >known< seems more appropriate than famous when talking about the film festival.

I stand by all the changes I made today on the page. However, I don't want to engage in a revert war, but would rather wait to hear what you have to say about what I wrote just above now.DDD DDD 07:56, 31 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've reverted some of the changes I made (some of them were inadvertent; sorry), but have again removed "a few" (far too vague) and changed the bit about the magazines. Unless they are exclusively devoted to pornography, magazines are not really considered pornographic. Badi and G-Men (et al) are not exclusively pornographic. External Links[edit]

I removed the link to clubzone.com as it currently has no listings for gay clubs in Tokyo. I added a link to utopia-asia.com's Japan section which does list many gay bars and clubs.
