Bill Shoemaker showboating?
I have seen 2 YouTube videos which show the ending of the 1957 Kentucky Derby, and was able to pinpoint when Bill Shoemaker started to stand up too soon. I don't QUITE understand why someone put it in the showboating list seen in the Wikipedia "showboat" article at this writing. Bill Shoemaker is aboard Gallant Man (behind Bill Hartack aboard Iron Liege) when Shoemaker starts to stand up too soon but quickly corrects this. Since Shoemaker was obviously in 2nd place, he could see Bill Hartack not standing up yet, and he continued to try to catch Hartack but his horse fell a nose short, and the concern is that starting to stand up too soon slowed Gallant Man slightly. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 18.104.22.168 (talk) 16:32, 11 August 2011 (UTC)
I need to add this to the above: Recently, I removed language from at least 2 Wikipedia entries which suggested that Gallant Man was ahead when Bill Shoemaker stood up too soon. The YouTube videos that I found have Gallant Man (ridden by Shoemaker) in SECOND place when the mistake occurred, and then Gallant Man, trying to catch Iron Liege, fell short by a nose. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 22.214.171.124 (talk) 17:19, 11 August 2011 (UTC)
