Fair use rationale for Image:SlimWhitman.jpg[edit]

Nuvola apps important.svg

Image:SlimWhitman.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 05:42, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

Beatles reunion?[edit]

I checked the footnote to the claim of Slim being considered as John Lennon's posthumous replacement, and found no evidence pointing to this. This section should be removed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by (talk) 14:04, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

Agreed, unless an independent source can be found, this reference should be immediately removed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by (talk) 20:32, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Years active[edit]

Why does this article terminate Slim's "years active" at 1974? He continued recording and performing for many years afterward. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Stuthehistoryguy (talkcontribs) 20:18, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

Date of birth[edit]

Good to see some sources at last. That first Google Search result ref, however, won't open for me. I think it would probably be best if they could all be converted to full primary refs? (Assuming the first is kosher too.) But something more like a fully-accessible on-line WP:RS would be more a lot more convincing? I wonder how they all line up. Thanks. Sources give his age at death as 90, implying he was born in 1923. This date - rather than 1924 - is supported by public records like this and this article based on an interview with him. I'll change it - if people are unhappy we can discuss it here. Ghmyrtle (talk) 10:55, 19 June 2013 (UTC)
Now it says 1923 in the lede and the infobox, but 1924 (with 3 sources) in the text. This needs fixing. -- Jack of Oz [Talk] 11:37, 19 June 2013 (UTC)
Good point. Oops! I think I'll self-revert, or semi-self-revert, and add a note. Ghmyrtle (talk) 12:10, 19 June 2013 (UTC)
This obit says 1923. Unless there's any objection, I'll change it (and try to be consistent this time...). Ghmyrtle (talk) 15:17, 19 June 2013 (UTC)
All obits now seems to give the age as 90 and the year as 1923. No objections to changing it. – Connormah (talk) 18:29, 19 June 2013 (UTC)

It is being reported that Whitman has died. There is some skepticism since there was a hoax a little while back, but there is a news report here. To further complicate matters there is also a hoax story today about his earnings. More reliable sources should be found. Wwwhatsup (talk) 09:20, 19 June 2013 (UTC)

FCN are indeed confirming. They have spoken to family. But here is another hoax page, dated tomorrow! Wwwhatsup (talk) 10:07, 19 June 2013 (UTC)
Right to clear this up - there was a hoax last year, but no news agency had reported it. This has confirmation from family members who have spoken to the agency. The page you've cited in that last post is from Necropedia, it's a very odd cite that has obituaries for celebrities who have died and pre-ready obituaries for those who have not yet died to their knowledge. The death dates on their pages update every day for living celebrities. Cheers --Jkaharper (talk) 10:58, 19 June 2013 (UTC)

DoB is 1923 in lede, 1924 in infobox. Which is correct? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 16:00, 19 June 2013 (UTC)

That's not quite correct - currently both years are given in the text, with a footnote. Did you read the thread two up from this? In the past, most usually reliable sources have said 1924, but there now seems to be a consensus that it was 1923. There's been some uncertainty today, but if there's a consensus for 1923 we should make it consistent. Ghmyrtle (talk) 16:18, 19 June 2013 (UTC)
PS: Just to avoid any further confusion - US public records show that Ottis Dewey Whitman Jr. was born on January 20, 1923, which made him 90 at the time of his death. Sources stating that he was 89 are wrong - based on much-repeated but nevertheless incorrect information - and sources stating that he was 90 are correct. Ghmyrtle (talk) 13:31, 21 June 2013 (UTC)

Epic Records/ Suffolk label?[edit]

These two labels are included in the info box, but without any trace in the article text. In fact what, is Suffolk Records? Martinevans123 (talk) 21:38, 21 June 2013 (UTC)
