Shadow[edit]

I don't know anything about this series, but I noticed this note from 68.37.227.226. Yes, we know Shadow shows up in a later episode, which has already aired in France. However, please don't add him to this list until the episode airs in English so we can properly cite his inclusion. If the episode has aired in France, why couldn't editors cite that episode as the source? There's no prohibition of citing non-English sources. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 19:46, 24 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Because the last time someone tried to cite a character's inclusion in an episode that had already aired in a foreign country (See: Metal Sonic), it got deleted multiple times, and it wasn't until the episode had aired in America that it stopped being removed despite no change in sources. Couple that with the fact that editors, including yourself, have rejected using episodes to cite a character's inclusion in the past, and I put down what seemed to be an unwritten policy as an actual written note. -- 68.37.227.226 (talk) 23:42, 24 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
68.37.227.226 Please show me where I rejected the inclusion of an episode citation. I would like to scrutinize that, or those, edit(s). Cyphoidbomb (talk) 17:03, 25 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Literally less than a week ago. -- 68.37.227.226 (talk) 17:14, 25 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Clearly an oversight. The issue as per my comment has to do with the blog comments being insufficient proof of the character's name. This was content that kept getting added and removed without any clear explanation, perhaps by you. [1][2]. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 03:29, 26 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, if you clicked on the Metal Sonic picture in the blog post, you would have gotten an expanded view where they list his name very clearly as part of the image description. Though I argue the necessity considering that Metal Sonic has been around for 20 years and is a known quantity within the context of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, with a design 99% unchanged from his traditional incarnation. -- 68.37.227.226 (talk) 22:39, 26 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
There are many editors who have this article on their watchlists to combat vandalism and generally sloppy fanboy editing. Many of these editors, including myself, have only a basic comprehension of the Sonic franchise and simply do not have the time to pore through the content to find the information. The burden is ultimately on the individual submitting the content to provide clear proof of the information they are submitting, and the smartest and best way to do that is by adding references that clearly include this information, and providing clear explanations both in edit summaries and on the article's talk page. Episode 52,103 and 104 Connorj2341 (talk) 23:28, 13 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm only just now watching 1-armed hedgehog, although linking to metal sonic if it's clearly him makes sense, if they don't actually call him this in the show then it's best to use whatever words they use in the show. Currently it is phrased as "the culprit", I'll listen if something better shows up. 184.145.18.50 (talk) 18:13, 23 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Edit Warring[edit]

Whilst I'm not going to use the pending changes tool to stop an edit war. (I don't want to be seen as tacitly approving of one version over another). A "Villains" subsection[edit]

Since we've already had multiple reverts on this matter, it is probably in the article's best interest to start a discussion here explaining what's going on. Multiple users have attempted to edit the "Characters" section to include a subsection titled "Villains", listing characters like Dr. Eggman and Shadow. Multiple users, myself included, have reverted these edits, citing WP:ANTAGONIST, which is a Manual of Style guideline for Film-related articles.

I fully realize that this article does not discuss a film; however, it is my belief that the spirit of the film guideline can be applied to this case. The specific MoS section which WP:ANTAGONIST refers to discusses how "Cast" sections in film articles should be written. The guideline states: If [cast] roles are described outside of the plot summary, keep such descriptions concise. Interpretations in the form of labels (e.g. protagonist, villain, main character) should be avoided. A well-written plot summary should convey such roles. Interestingly, the guideline also discourages the label of "main character", which we do still use in the article.

In the end, the guideline also recommends: Editors are encouraged to lay out such content in a way that best serves readers for the given topic. If necessary, build toward a consensus. And so here we are. What is the best way to organize the character section to provide the best layout for readers? Mz7 (talk) 04:41, 25 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Mz7, WP:ANTAGONIST is observed by the TV community though it is not in the MOS. It should be clear by character write-ups who is a villain and such. The characters should be presented they way they are at present, per MOS:TV, with interest in main characters and recurring ones. One-off characters should be avoided. Of course I know you know all of this, but the casual editors may not. Regards! Cyphoidbomb (talk) 17:07, 25 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Some people started the villain section because Doctor Eggman (alongside his minions Orbot and Cubot, his Badniks, and the robot creations) aren't the only villains in the show. This was evidence upon the viewers seeing T.W. Barker and his Stuntbears, the Lightning Bolt Society (consisting of Willy Walrus, Dave the Intern, Tree Spy, some Weasel Bandits, and some unnamed members), Charlie, and Shadow the Hedgehog. Did I leave anything out? --Rtkat3 (talk) 17:10, 3 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
It sounds like you're saying "Someone created a section on villains because there were multiple villains". Okay, and? The section is not compliant with MOS:TV and there's no need for the labels if we have character descriptions that make it clear that a character does villain-like stuff. Unamusingly, since you've introduced "villain" language into the article. I can only assume that WP:ANTAGONIST is yet another guideline that you haven't read/don't understand. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 18:11, 3 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I'd be okay with group sub articles, like Team Sonic, Lightning Bolt Society, etc. if that helps. -- Anythingspossibleforapossible (talk) 18:29, 3 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

And, of course, it's basically already like that. :P So I don't see the need for a villains section as it's fine the way it is. -- Anythingspossibleforapossible (talk) 18:30, 3 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Boom-respective character labels[edit]

When we deviate from the common name of a character it should be supported by in-universe reference so I am wondering, does anyone know which if any episodes refer to Knuckles as an echidna, Amy as a hedgehog, or Tails as "Miles Prower" (or a fox) ? It's the kind of thing I'm sure has probably happened but not entirely sure and if so when. If anyone can listen for dialogue in respect to this and cite if they find it. I'll be keeping an ear open for the eps I haven't seen but am not up to watching reruns solely for this purpose at present. 184.145.18.50 (talk) 14:17, 18 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Recurring character name order[edit]

This looks like it intends to be alphabetized but has some variations. Should we go by some other basis like episode of first appearance or episode of re-appearance?

Also only one episode is cited for Metal Sonic. Did he appear in a second? If he didn't we should not say 'recurring'. I'd still like to feature him but it should be in some other list like "notable guests" or "franchise characters" (setting apart from show-original throwaways) if he did not recur in the show itself.

Are some reading this as Metal Sonic "recurring" in his Sonic Boom debut since he debuted in other Sonic media? 184.145.18.50 (talk) 18:16, 23 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Recurring villainous granny[edit]

I'm not sure what her name is, but she has recurring speaking roles. In the episode where Sonic is framed for stealing the particle accelerator she suggests poisoning him, and in the chili dog cookoff she is selling "one of a kind peppers" to everyone. She is grey colored with a tail, guessing a wolf, wears glasses, purple dress. If she's listed under recurring I don't see her, but she should be. Does anyone know if she's referred to by name (other than "you", all I recall so far) in an episode? 184.145.18.50 (talk) 19:22, 23 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

She is a small villan somewhat like dave the intern Connorj2341 (talk) 23:26, 13 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Zppix: noticed you removed this info about her in special:diff/706517115 and did not provide any information for your information-blanking so I am going to restore it. Please explain in the future why you wish to remove reliably sourced information. 184.145.18.50 (talk) 22:56, 2 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Old man[edit]

A depressing old man often appears with pathetic dialogue. Is he ever given a name in creds or CC or anything? Ranze (talk) 05:41, 14 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

yes his name is old monkey and he is often blamed by Knukels. Connorj2341 (talk) 23:25, 13 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Would this show be considered satire?[edit]

In season 2, many episodes feature satirical commentary on the modern society. 72.204.22.52 (talk) 23:36, 6 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

IMDb, etc.[edit]

These edits are problematic for several reasons: "Currently, the series has a 8/10 rating on IMDb. Being the highest rated Sonic The Hedgehog cartoon in this website."

1) "Currently" says that this is what the score is when the reader is reading the article. Between when you edited the page and when anyone checks, the score may change. Do not use "currently". Use "As of (month and year)".

2) The IMDb score is site users' ratings, a type of self-published source. Wikipedia does not use site users' ratings for this reason.

3) "Being the highest rated Sonic The Hedgehog cartoon in this website." is a sentence fragment. It is grammatically incorrect.

4) That this is the highest rated Sonic cartoon is original research: The source does not say this. You looked at all the Sonic cartoons you could find and made the observation yourself.

5) You did not cite your source.

Of these problems, we could clean up four of them, but #2 is inescapable. We cannot add the IMDb users' score. - SummerPhDv2.0 15:25, 16 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Steven buck: Please discuss the issue. The IMDb score you have repeatedly added is a site users' rating, a type of self-published source. Wikipedia does not use site users' ratings for this reason. - SummerPhDv2.0 01:50, 26 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Season 3?[edit]

I heard Dr. Eggman said in the Season 2 finale that there would be another season.

Was he wrong? --DukeyDukeyDoo (talk) 06:15, 15 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

yup I watched for over two years and it has not came 😭 but your right he did say that. Connorj2341 (talk) 23:22, 13 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Amy Rose[edit]

I was looking over the character section of the article; when I came to Amy, someone changed her age to 14. But isn't she 12? I checked the history and 151.224.231.28 made the change. What is Amy's age? --TheWikiSearcher (talk) 20:05, 24 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Good point, i am a fan of this show and she never revealed her age. Connorj2341 (talk) 23:20, 13 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
