[edit] Observation

Obbop says, after a multitude of observations while passing by the several Sonic Drive-ins in the Omaha Nebraska area..... there sure are a lot of obese people eating there. Perhaps the main article needs to mention the high-caloric fare offered by this fast food firm.

Not any more than the rest... to say otherwise is completely idiotic. Seraphimneeded 03:23, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

If there are more obese people at Sonic than at other fast food places, it's likely releated to the fact that you don't have to get out of your car. There's a certain level of laziness to be accounted for. Still, it's not fast food that causes obesity. Don't confuse cause and effect. Obese people eat fast food, fast food doesn't make obese people. That thing the one reporter did with McDonalds is he became sedentary as well. The exact symptoms he experienced probably would've been experienced by someone who wasn't eating hot food and had turned sedentary. I'm not obese and I eat at both Wendy's and Sonic. I attribute it to my non-obesity to an active lifestyle. 24.254.141.144 14:49, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

I would love to know why all three Sonic Drive-ins are closed in Lakeland, Florida. These were our favorite places to hang out. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.127.180.127 (talk) 21:55, 7 July 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Why?

I live in New York and I see Sonic commercials all the time. However, I have yet to actually see one, and I did a search online, and there is only one, single, solitary Sonic Drive-Thru within 150 miles of my house, and it's in some town in PA. What's up with that?

Same issue here in Massachusetts, except that the website search comes up empty within 150 miles of my house. What's even more irritating are the Geicos and Progressives that advertise here when they won't write an insurance policy here. --Tckma 03:05, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
I live around Seattle and I've had the same problem! 71.231.78.4 23:04, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
It's interesting that their website says, "No matter where you're heading, there's a Sonic on the way." Considering they're only in 33 states, and not even in all major metropolitan areas in those states, that claim is really a stretch.4.232.219.182 17:45, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

They mean mostly in the south go to oklahoma city and youll see like at least 10 before you arive to where ur staying providing its in oklahoma city and a bit farther in. And as to Obbop: its a fast food restraunt that doesnt say their food is healthy and says its main food are hamburgers and such on the side box of this article I dont mean to offend but if people cannot figure that out their not neccarily stupid but they do need to learn a bit about food.

Pfft, there's only one in Washington(Spokane) and one in Oregon(Idaho). I think I'll go on a road trip with some friends and bitch them out ;D After eating there, of course. I hate their commercials and how there are very few locations, especially in the middle of nowhere.209.91.61.223 08:10, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

I had no idea Idaho was a town in Oregon. --ScreaminEagle 20:37, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Dale Earnhardt Sr.

Sonic was one of the sponsors on Dale Earnhardt Sr.'s last car in 2001, someone may want to add that.

  • That would likely have a better place on Dale Earnhardt Sr's article than on the Sonic article. Where Sonic puts its logos adds nothing to the Sonic article itself. Television ads aren't random, they're aired on a show by show basis. Should we add every television show that a given company has ever put an ad on to that company's article? 24.254.141.144 15:02, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Clear Error in "Trivia"

The statement that there is no Sonic within 50 miles of Los Angeles County is wrong: there has been one for several years in Anaheim, which, in addition to being only a few miles from the LA County border, is also well within the Los Angeles media market. Additionally there are NUMEROUS Sonic locations in Bakersfield and one in Tehachapi, again, both less than 50 miles from the LA County border.4.232.219.182 17:46, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, I'm just going to remove those items, it doesn't seem noteable to me. Danthemankhan 22:12, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Tacky Statement Removal

Every meal is served with a smile, condiments, and a peppermint candy? Please. I removed a smile.

Amen to that. I was in the Denver 16th Street Mall location, and it was, without a doubt, the absolute worst experience I have EVER had in my WHOLE LIFE...In any case, we need to not parrot their PR. NickBurns 20:53, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Border Foods

I have removed the reference to Border Foods. Their website says they are a franchisee of said restaurants (Taco Bell, KFC, etc). They are NOT the parent company of such companies, YUM! Brands is. Thegov2k2 21:31, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

I just removed that information, again... Border Foods does not own Sonic, so please do not keep reposting this information! Plusone 22:23, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Where oh where....

Someone obviously spent a whole lot of time on the very very lengthy history....but where is it coming from? There's no source/citation...It does NOT appear to be lifted directly from the Sonic website, but this really needs some supporting citations....NickBurns 20:53, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

210.249.76.216 03:16, 30 September 2007 (UTC) I agree. Personally I would like to see some mention of Warner Van Sciver, VP of Franchise Services from 1988 to ??. I knew him from his great work with JA and his Secret Santa work with poor children in OKC. He would dress up as Santa every year and give presents donated by the Sonic staff and community to children with no money. He was crucial to their Franchise success and development.

[edit] Another Sonic in Washington state

I was watching the news the other day, and was delighted to find out that Sonic is going to be building a restaurant in Kennewick, WA, my home town! I can't wait!

If anyone else from Washington state has such good news, please let me know. Elwin Blaine Coldiron 16:57, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Drinks

This has been in here for months now and no citation has been added,

Sonic boasts an impressive 168,894 possible drink combinations, stating that you could have a new drink every day for the next 462 years, a claim that backs up their slogan as "The Ultimate Drink Stop"

i am giving 48 hours to find a source or im deleting this. This sounds like nonsense or clever vandalism to me Nevilledad 04:39, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

Its possible!! I've been an employee of Sonic Drive In for almost a year now and believe I've some of the weirdest drink combinations! From chocolate strawberry cherry Dr. Pepper to pineapple orange sprite! The possibilities are endless!!![[User:147.97.30.150 (talk) 19:19, 18 November 2008 (UTC)]] 01:18, November 2008

[edit] NJ Sonic Grand Opening Date

Added the grand opening date for the Waretown, NJ Sonic. 12.17.199.1 16:16, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Controversies Section

I work for the franchising company. The information contained in the Controversies section does not comply with the NOR and verifiable policies. The information is also not accurate. Carhop pay practices differ among franchisees and drive-ins, and they cannot be accurately summarized in a few sentences. It is requested that the Controversies section be deleted. Thank you. Tophat12 (talk) 20:40, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

The great thing about Wikipedia is that anyone may edit. If you feel that the section is in error or needs clarification, by all means please have at it in making the needed corrections or deletions. Shinerunner (talk) 22:51, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
Okay. I am going to remove the section based on NOR and not verified and also based on accuracy. I also believe the title of the section is not a NPOV. Thanks. 12.41.206.100 (talk) 16:45, 22 July 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Promotions section

Does anyone other than Sonic's PR firm think the Promotions section belongs here? How about the Advertising section? Rees11 (talk) 21:47, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

Well, before you go lopping out more sections of the article without discussion, perhaps you should look at the Wendy's, Burger King and Arby's articles. Shinerunner (talk) 00:52, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Advertising--2010

In addition to irrelevant film locations that I suspect are being entered by people who recognize their sonics, I notice this quote is highly irrelevant to Sonic Drive-In.

"Katie Ratkiewicz was cast to be the rollerskating carhop after serving several of the commercial producers at Hyde Park Bar & Grill in Austin who convinced her to audition."

I don't know what to do because I'm not a big wikipedia person but when reading the article this really stuck out to me as lowering the quality of the article. 134.10.31.181 (talk) 20:31, 7 September 2010 (UTC)

[edit] America's Drive-In Brand Properties LLC

Most of Sonic's material is marked "America's Drive-In Brand Properties LLC", even right there in the Wiki article. Is this a shell company? A tax haven? The relation of this to Sonic Industries should be mentioned in the article to help clarify and differentiate the different companies that comprise Sonic. -Rolypolyman (talk) 02:26, 13 February 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Updating information

Hello - I work for Sonic Corp. and will update officer names and titles and well as update financial information to end of fiscal year 2010 (Aug. 31, 2010) Beyond that, our only goal in any edits is to ensure informaiton is factual and to provde citations where we are able. Thanks for all the work that has gone into creating this entry. Clearly, my relationship to Sonic Corp. could pose a COI, however, it is my intent only to ensure the information in this article is factual, not opinion.Christiwoodwort (talk) 03:23, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

I also work at Sonic Corp with Christi and we are going to work together to insure the Sonic profile is accurate. I will provide citations and documentation when possible. SonicMint (talk) 21:35, 30 March 2011 (UTC) SonicMint

[edit] Alaska reference in 2010 section

There is a comment in the 2010 section regarding acquisition or development in Alaska. That market has not been for sale to date, and while inbound inquiries may have been made, no proactive work on Sonic's behalf has been undertaken to recruit franchisees or sell the market. Please provide a citation for this comment. thanks Christiwoodwort (talk) 21:42, 30 March 2011 (UTC)Christiwoodwort

[edit] Troy Smith, Sr.

I have update the founder & first location of Sonic Drive-In. Sonic was founded in Shawnee, Okla. in 1953 by Troy Smith, Sr., not in Illinois and not by Cole Winters. I'm not sure who edited this section and can't find it in the history. Please do change as this information is now currently correct. 12.41.206.95 (talk) 16:11, 11 April 2011 (UTC)christiwoodwort

[edit] 1960-1970 Section

During the 1960s and 1970s, Sonic had no strict standardized procedures or recipes for their franchisees.[citation needed] Franchisees or franchise groups often developed their own recipes for different menu items or regional specialties. These variations hampered Sonic's growth during this period, which sometimes led to disagreements between franchise groups over menus, pricing, coupons and advertising.[citation needed] As a franchiser, Sonic did not inspect or monitor its franchisees' operations. Customers never knew what to expect in terms of menu, quality or service. Sonic's future growth was in doubt, and by the 1980s the company was losing money.[8] This paragraph is listed as needing citations on several issues. I have not been able to find anything to substantiate the comments marked as such, therefore I am going to remove them. That being said, the one sentence that does have a supporting citation doesn't seem to fit well without the other being substantiated so I am removing it as well. SonicMint (talk) 18:54, 5 May 2011 (UTC) SonicMint

[edit] Locations???

Sonic has more than 3,500 locations in 43 US States. So which states don't have them? --76.115.67.114 (talk) 21:41, 3 December 2011 (UTC)
