I've added a POV-check to this article. Statements such as "Soods have a very ancient and glorious ancestry with noble qualities" seem suspect. The articles mixes historical details with subjective opinions. AadityaSood 18:51, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
The last paragraph in the "Glimpses of Sood History - India" section is very biased in my opinion. AadityaSood 19:01, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
The second sentence is incredibly wrong. It says that Ahmed Shah Abdali invaded Punjab after the death of Maharanjit Singh even though these two men are seperated by a hundred years. Secondly, it states that the Sood's fought with Ahmed Shah Abdali. I will try to remove the sentence if I can, its most likely a bad translation, someone can add it back after.
I agree the last paragraph of the Sood site is biased. But from my research this is one of the best sites available to learn the history of the Sood community. Also the Sood Sabha books published by district Sood groups tend to be more self-righteous. What group will publish a book on its and not be swollen with pride. I would like to see a private Sood webpage started to creat family trees along with other historical information floating around others can share.
My paternal grandfather, Prem Nath Sud of Ludhiana (Kailash Dairy, Moch Pura), was sikh at birth, but he converted to Hinduism. So, I know there were Sood/Sud ancestors that were sikh. If you want more details, my father, Mohinder Sood of Cerritos, California, can provide more information. Please e-mail me at anu@cox.net if you wish to contact him. In addition to it I Parvesh Kumar Sood mention here that S. Karm Singh Sood (Who lost one of his arms in A battel with Ahemd Shah Abdali) was right hand of Nawab Kapoor Singh (A known Sikh Leader in the First Part of 18th century who migrated from Chabhal to Kot Mohd. Khan (Tarn Taran) alongwith his elder brother Suba Singh. How and when this family returned to Hindu fold is not kown to me however it can be traced from the Pandas of Haridwar some of the members of this family are living at Tarn Taran, Delhi, Chandigarh,Ambala. Neelokheri etc. Also, I missed it in the information provided by the Sood Sabha. It may have had inaccuracies, but there were some statements that I can corroborate based on things my relatives have told me. The Sood history as mentioned in the web page from Chandigarh Sood Sabha has not mentioned a known Sood Gotra Goinder (The Bull) which is the sub caste of soods from Kot Mohd. Khan and Chabhal. It would have been a better step to form the family trees of Soods in plans to vist Sh. Parveen Kumar Panday at Sunnyhit Sarovar, Kurukeshtra (Parveen Kumar Panday has left this world on 01.08.08 on the bank of holy Sunnyhit srovar) on the day of Mela at Kurukeshtra.

[edit] COMMENT
Anu Ji,I wish to make a comment here. Thanks for showing your concerns. There is nothing like 'convert' between Hindus and sikhs. It is one family only. Generally speaking, the elder son in the family would be made "Keshdhari" while others would be "Monas(Silent) or Sehajdharis". All would visit Hari Mandir. together. Both would be categorized as "GURSIKH"....BibiJi Savitri Devi sood( now 90 plus) headed the ladies wing at Sri Tarn Taran Gurudwara till 1984 or so...Dr.Bhushan Sood,Canada.(15th February, 2008) It is also added here that Bhai Gurdas has mentioned the names of the sikhs to whom guru (Guru Arjun Dev) loves and there are two soods in 22 such sikhs. Bhai Santokh Singh has also written in his book Shri Panth Parkash that a large number of soods became sikhs. A fighter Kirpal Sood from Phagwara was considered as right hand of Guru Teg Bahadur== Cleaned Up Article ==

pullusood- "sir why is it still showing "The page may require clean-up", what is wrong i the whole text?
I am surprised to see that someone has deleted the entire text without knowing the facts or going into the depth.
Late Madan Mohan Sood was PS to the former Chief Minister of Haryana in 70s and he used his good offices to do a lot of research to find facts supported by quotes from "Chhajnamaas" which is the recorded data base of the moghuls or rulers of that time.He had attended a joint meeting cum conference of Soods and Rajputs at Lahore and soods were accepted as having rajput/ k'shatrya origin. Soods living in Chandigarh area knew him very well. I knew him too as I took care of his dental health. He was a very fine personality who would not sell himself for cheap publicity. Two years back,We confered upon him a very prestigious award posthmously in Mississauga City (Toronto area), Canada where his family(two sons,a daughter and may grand children) lives now. Most of his family members attended the ceremony.
Akbar was born in Amarkot(now in Pakistan) at a Sood king's palace.
Sirhind was called Soodpur. Soods controlled the economy there can be judged from the fact that Sirhind region still has a visible concentration of sood families there and most of the families are well settled.
We still have senior soods to tell us the tales. So many sood shrines and mansions are still existing. There is one Mahinderae Baharian da Mela at Jalandhar. If some one have more information about it please mention it in this page.
I think there is no harm to use the word "glorious" if that is based on facts. Moreover, one should not delete the whole text just because one feels that the text is biased.
To know the facts about soods, one must visit cities like Sirhind,Ludhiana(sooden mohalla)sangowal sooden, jassowal sooden ,dhandra,Doraha, Morinda, Machhiwada, Moga, NoorMahal, Hoshiarpur, Kangra, PalamPur, Garli, Ambota, PragPur, Haroli, Jaijon, Kola, Shimla etc. and hear about glories of soods, especialy from people who are not soods. Paragpur in Himachal Pradesh has been declared as a "Heritage Village" because of contributions made by soods of that area to Himachal Pradesh. It has beautiful sood havelis(mansions). There existed a Sood-Kuthiala haveli(mansion) in Haroli. I hope that is maintained well because I saw it more than forty years ago. Visit Jaijon Doaba-Hoshiarpur to see a magnificant and well maintained sood haveli(mansion of my paternal grandmother's family). One room has a picture gallery of our ancestors.
Soodan Mohallas ( Sood neighbourhoods) are there in many cities like Noormahal. There are villages named after Soods like "Kot Soodan" in Jalandhar District where Shri Kuldip Rai Sood, Principal of Institute for the Blind,Chandigarh, was born.
Sood community feels proud to have three shrines in and around Chandigarh, viz: Sood Dharamsala in Sector 22 and Sood Bhawan at Sector 44 at Chandigarh and Sood Bhawan at Sector 10, Panchkula. This is exceptional because no other community has three shrines in a particular region like this one.Isn't that glorious?
Hoshiarpur city has a huge mansion (haveli) of Late Mela Ram Sood at Kanak Mandi Chowk. We also have Lachhman Dass Sood Dharamsala (Shrine)and Balbhadr Sood Vatika(shrine) at Civil Lines.
There are two Sood shrines at Shimla; Sood Janj Ghar ( Sood Marriage place) and Ram Mandir( marriage banquet etc.) which is a four storeyed huge shrine for the use of the community at large.
There is a sood Dharamsala(shrine)at Jawalmukhi.

COMMENTS FROM GENERAL SECRETARY, SOOD SABHA CHANDIGARH (Regd.) In every community there is always an inherent desire to know about their ancestry. Knowledge of great deeds and honourable
conduct of the ancestors acts as an inducement to better deeds. The nobility of ancestry are not mere matters of glorification
but they further inspire the posterity to follow in the foot steps of their forefathers so that they provew themselves worthy
inheritors. A wrong impression has been created that "Soods"(meaning in persian 'interest' ) came into being during the muslim
period. The fact is that "Sood" are an ancient community. The word 'sood' is of Sanskrit origin. Late Prof. Rulya Ram Kashyap,
who was a scholar of Sanskrit and had studied Vedas extensively, after thorough research, published a small book "Sood Yog".
According to him the word 'sood' has been mentiohned in the Vedas at 23 places - 15 places in Rig Ved, 6 in Yajur Ved and twice
in Atharva Ved. Muslims invaded India in 700-715 AD whereas Soods were there much before that. According to some historians,
Soods have Rajput ( Parmar ) inheritance and were rulers of some of the States in Rajasthan. Please refer renowned historians
viz. Col. James Tod ( Tod's Rajasthan), Vaka-i-Rajasthan, History of Ancient India by Sh. R.C. Dutt and historian Sh. D.C.
Ganguli, 'Chhajnama' and 'Tabkate Sikandri'. These historical facts have been recorded by Shri Madan Mohan Sood in his book
"Origin and History of Soods" which is available on Sood Sabha Chandigarh website: www.soodsabhachd.org. Someone may disagree
with the findings of Shri Madan Mohan Sood but while disagreeing, one must contradict those facts historically. It is just
childish that someone removed the entire context from the site. In a free society, "I may not agree with you, but I will defend
your right to have your opinion". This is how society progresses. We are proud of our ancestors. Sood Bhawans at Chandigarh and
Panchkula have become centre for rendering 'service to the Society' viz (1) Charitable Diagnostic Laboratory, equipped with semi
-auito analyser and fully computerized ( 2) Physio-therapy and Rehabilitation Centre (3) Allopathic and Homoeopathic Clinics,
(4) Eye Check up Unit (5) Meditation Centre and Library (6) Multipurpose Halls for social functions and (7) AC/non AC rooms.
