Reason for replacing SIMM-Slots w/ proprietary format[edit]

There could be another reason additional to Creative wanting to sell the RAM themselves: SIMM-Slots take much more space on the card then the proprietary format Creative used for the AWE64 series. AWE64-cards are ahlf-lenght, so they are much shorter then AWE32. 1MB RAM variant[edit]

The article used to mention 3 versions of the AWE64 - with 512KB (Value), 1MB (Standard) and 4MB (Gold) RAM respectively. After a lengthy discussion and investigation it was concluded that the 1MB version does not in fact exist, and the article was edited accordingly. Improved quality of signal[edit]

The article overview states that the quality of the signal, and SNR are improved in comparison with AWE32,
"because of its superior gold plated RCA connector outputs".

I don't think that is the case,
as it has been technically proven many times that connectors/wire materials don't improve audio quality per se.

I don't know the exact details, but I would assume the increase in quality is due to either:
better AD/DA converters, better OP-Amp circuitry, and as the article says "increased integration of components".

The improvement however was quite noticeable even in the non RCA versions,
and I can asses it, as I had both the AWE32 and AWE64 cards back in the 90's/00's.

Still both cards were quite noisy for recording, and that was improved on the successive PCI cards,
specially on the Live 5.1 which could even work at 24bit and had improved routing with third party drivers like the KX Project.
