The position of Spirillum minus (rat-bite fever) in taxonomy should be clarified. Is it a member of the genus Spirillum (Proteobacteria)? Is it a spirochaete? What genus of Spirochaetes? In this reference: Krieg, Noel R. 1976. "Biology of the chemoheterotrophic spirilla." Bacteriological Reviews, vol. 40, no. 1. American Society for Microbiology. Pages 63-66 and also 55-56 [1] the author says the species was formerly named as S. minor (by Carter in 1888) and then renamed to S. minus (better Latin). In those times there was a lot of species in the genus Spirillum but then they were moved to other genera. S. minus seems to be more related to Aquaspirillum or Campylobacter. In the LPSN S. minus is not included. Is the species name S. minus a valid name today? I don't know for sure but i think it isn´t.--Miguelferig (talk) 20:16, 11 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
