Sex symbol

Just professing my love for Steven.... oh Steven, one day, you will be mine.. hehe. But seriously speaking, how bout some mention of Steven's sex symbol image in the article, because I think that's a significant part of what Aerosmith was. The groupies and whatnot hehe.. if a source is necessary, here's some: Boston Magazine: Steven Tyler, and Metal Express Radiohere's a quote from the second article: "Mike Grant reminded me of a young Steve Tyler with all the swagger and stage presence that made Tyler a sex symbol". I just think it might add something to the article to mention that he's widely seen as a sex symbol. Stop The Lies 11:31, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

Religious affiliation

Ok, I was wondering about what religion he considers himself. I'd think Christian due to songs on Honkin' on Bobo, but not sure. IronCrow 03:50, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

it used to say roman catholic on this page, but it has since been removed. i'm guessing some sort of christianity, due to a lot of the content he puts in his song lyrics 24.154.199.103 21:30, 16 February 2007 (UTC)
It would seem that way - here he is singing amazing grace[1]. It seems to me to be worth a mention, and I came here to read about it, due to the contrast with the 'toxic' 'demon' image. --Timtak 01:08, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

I agree, probably some sort of Christianity. He said "God Bless You" at the concert last night, anyway. 89.100.46.70 18:24, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

He mentions the "Good Lord" in Dream On, and frequently references angels in songs (Angel and Amazing). I would guess he believes in God, or else he (like Zorostrian Freddy Mercury) just mentions God in songs. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.247.244.120 (talk) 20:09, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

Original research? What?

What's with the original research tag? Please elaborate what you believe to be original research. Pretty much everything in this article can be verified by reading Aerosmith's autobiography Walk This Way or by not living under a rock the past few years. Abog 08:03, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

Conflicting info

Just noticed a conflict:

Under Career, "Steven is now happily married his wife Tiffany Vivienne." And under Personal Life -> Relationships "Tyler is currently dating Erin Brady."

Which is it? The latter comment has two references, and I would suggest even if the (unreferenced) former is more current information it is in the wrong section. Feyrauth (talk) 04:55, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

First entry was a recent addition by an unregistered wikipedian. Google search results in no significant hits for the name "Tiffany Vivienne". Reverted due to suspected vandalism. Feyrauth (talk) 05:05, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Erin Brady & assault

There seems to be a conflict emerging over whether Erin Brady's assault belongs in this article or not. I don't believe it does, but I really couldn't care one way or the other as long as there's consensus. It keeps being removed and re-added, with the formatting getting mangled every time. I'm going to go ahead and remove this bit and the broken ref tag that came with it, but I'm not going to keep reverting it unless consensus requests that we do such. Fogster (talk) 20:02, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

I agree that this little tidbit about Erin Brady does not belong in a Steven Tyler Wikipedia article. Tyler has dated/married several women in the past and to document, in detail, all of their little eccentricities would be absolutely ridiculous. All that really needs to be mentioned is who he dated and when, which ones he married, and which ones he fathered children with. If this was an article about Erin Brady, this gossip tidbit about her assaulting someone might warrant inclusion, but since it's not, then it does not belong in an article about Steven Tyler.
Steven Tyler, particularly his personal life, is a frequent target of vandalism on Wikipedia, and since these edits are being done by an unregistered user, I will continue to treat as such, and revert it everytime. Abog (talk) 20:13, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

He was at the Clinic to be a Sponsor for several celebrity addicts, he is forbidden from making a public statement due to the Confidentiality Agreement with the VH1 TV Show being filmed. The closest validation you can get on this is an interveiw he had at the MAP awards a couple weeks ago, where he stated he would be making himself available to several people 24/7 to help them, and where ever he was, he would stop what he was doing to help them. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.67.93.158 (talk) 12:16, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

né/née

In the references, it says "Steven Tyler nee Tallarico" Née is french for "born" if you are a girl. It's used sometimes in English to show the maiden name of females. It's overused in wikipedia in my opinion, by those who think it means "whose name used to be". Presumably these are the same people who think "circa" means "the exact year of". ;) If anything it should be né, with one e and an accent aigu, which is the masculine version. I tried to change it but it wasn't showing for me on the edit page for the fish. ~bing né boing —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.119.134.216 (talk) 01:46, 23 may 2011 (UTC)

Where was he born?

In the first paragraph it is stated that he was born in Yonkers. In "early life" it is stated that he was born in New York, New York (Manhattan). —Preceding unsigned comment added by Albatross48 (talkcontribs) 22:45, 23 January 2009 (UTC)

I was wondering that myself, on the sidebar it also says he was born in Lake Sunapee.--Scope000 (talk) 15:52, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

Steven Tyler grew up in Sunapee, New Hampshire. All these New Hampshire superstars (Triple H, Adam Sandler, Godsmack, Aerosmith, etc etc) say they were born and raised somewhere else. My dad went to school with Steven at Sunapee High School. Yes, he had a house on Lake Sunapee... which might be where they says "Lake Sunapee." (talk) 12:00 AM, 27, August 2009 (EST)

The question is where he was born, not where he grew up. I agree, the first sentence is completely contradicted by the "Early life" section. Was he actually born in NYC or Yonkers? Also, New York, NY is not necessarily Manhattan. All 5 boroughs are part of New York, NY. 162.136.193.1 (talk) 17:28, 2 September 2009 (UTC)

Jewish?

I notice that the "American Jews" category has been added, though there is no mention of this anywhere in the rest of the article. I have searched Google to try to source a reliable reference to this claim, but so far in vain. As there seems to be little or no evidence of Tyler's 'Jewishness' in the public domain (at least on the internet)I'm assuming whoever added this has made a calculated guess based on his mother's Russian heritage and his birth place in Yonkers, New York (both historically tied to Jewish immigration to the US, if I recall correctly). I'm going to remove the offending category. If anyone can prove he really is Jewish, by all means add it back. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.45.11.14 (talk) 22:20, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

Multi-instrumentalist

A good section to be added would be about Steven being a multi-instumentalist. Information should include what was the first instrument he learned, his favorite instrument to play, and his least favorite. Rock'N'More (talk) 23:37, 9 April 2010 (UTC)

Formation and success of Aerosmith section

The first paragraph of the Formation and success of Aerosmith section doesn't make any sense:

In 1965, Tyler wrote "Dream On". In 1969, Tyler attended a local rock show in Sunapee, Around 1971, the band moved to Boston, Massachusetts and shared a small apartment on Commonwealth Avenue in Brighton. A former mate of Tyler's from New York, Joey Kramer, was recruited to play drums and later, they added a rhythm guitarist: Brad Whitford, who replaced Tyler's boyhood friend Ray Tabano.

He wrote a song and attended a rock show? Okay, so what? How did his writing of a song help form the band? Then he moved to Boston. Okay, so what? What does THAT have to do with the formation of the band? He shared a small apartment with who? Why is that important? Then, all of a sudden, Joey Kramer is playing drums. But for who? There's no mention of a band yet! Then "they" added a rhythm guitarist. WHO did? There's still no mention of a band yet.

Normally I'd attempt to fix something like this, but I don't know enough about the subject matter to even attempt it. It really looks like there was deletion vandalism between "in Sunapee," and "Around 1971," (notice peculiar capitalization of "Around" in the middle of a sentence). I looked in the history, though, and couldn't find any. Maybe someone else will have better luck, or can rewrite the paragraph to help it make sense. — Frεcklεfσσt | Talk 11:45, 13 August 2010 (UTC)

Okay, nevermind. I couldn't let it sit. I did find an earlier version of the paragraph, and I was right. Someone came along and deleted a whole section that prevented it from making any sense. I don't know if the version I restored was the absolute latest version of the paragraph, but it's a whole lot better than it was. Cheers. — Frεcklεfσσt | Talk 11:54, 13 August 2010 (UTC)

Article contradicts itself on birthplace

The infobox says Yonkers, the article says Scarsdale. They are two very different places in Westchester County. Neither has a cite. WP:BLP says unverified information can be removed immediately, but would someone like to provide cites first? Recent events

Isn't "Recent Events" supposed to be more of a career-defining collection of events that are not otherwise described in a historical outlet? All that's being presented here is a date-by-date diary of what TV shows Steven is appearing on. He hosts American Idol. He's releasing a book. That should be about it. "Kids Choice Award"? That's a blog post and doesn't belong here. {Redrkr (talk) 04:32, 5 April 2011 (UTC)}

Don't panic; deletions can take a little longer at Commons than they do on Wikipedia. This gives you an opportunity to contest the deletion (although please review Commons guidelines before doing so). The best way to contest this form of deletion is by posting on the image talk page.

  • If the image is non-free then you may need to upload it to Wikipedia (Commons does not allow fair use)
  • If the image isn't freely licensed and there is no fair use rationale then it cannot be uploaded or used.
  • If the image has already been deleted you may want to try Commons Undeletion Request

Extended Family

I can actually say that I am connected to Steven Tylers family. His uncle Ernie was married to my sister in law Antoinette (Toni) who unfortunetly passed away 10 years ago. I only met her and Ernie once when my husband and I went to visit them in NY just prior to her passing. I had seen the gold albums encased on the wall in the room of their house which was amazing. I have always loved Aerosmith and to be connected to amazing legend is a story I can hold on to. My daughter is always asking if we could see Steven, maybe someday I tell her. Stefano vs Steven

According to newspapers in Italy reporting a visti of Steve Tyler in his granfather village in Calabria , appears his name to be STEFANO not Steven.

His grandfather Giovanni Tallarico, Steven grandfather, leaves from the province of Crotone , a village name Cotronei along with three brothers. They arrive in the te United States. It is the late nineteenth century and Giovanni is a young musician in search of fortune. Once in America he get married and transmits his musical passion to his son Vittorio, which creates a small band and become a piano teacher. Vittorio Tallarico is father to Steven/Stefano Tallarico. And Tyler in the article uses the name of Stefano- — Preceding unsigned comment added by Melchisedech (talkcontribs) 15:36, 15 March 2017 (UTC)

Major sourcing issues

The part of the article covering the period from 1970 to 2000 in Tyler's career consists of 14 paragraphs of text, some of them quite lengthy and dense. Those 14 paragraphs contain 3 footnotes. Just saying. Amandil21 (talk) 06:10, 5 September 2021 (UTC)

Holcomb - balance needed

The bit on Julia Holcomb seems designed to exculpate Tyler. Here it says she became his ward to avoid him being arrested as he crossed state lines. She also says he pressured her into the abortion. We need some balance. Malick78 (talk) 08:53, 14 September 2021 (UTC)

Grandfather, Felix Blancha

This edit contradicts the sources on which the statement is based. Before the edit, the Polish nationality of Tyler's grandfather was indicated, and the source details that his grandfather regarded himself as Polish (On the ship's manifest, Felix claimed Bobruysk as his hometown. Bobruysk is now in Belarus, but his paper trail clearly indicates that he regarded himself as Polish ). So that edit, as well as its summary, is completely misleading, and does not fit the information from the source. --5.167.164.57 (talk) 08:02, 1 January 2022 (UTC)

The source of both citations are still basing this info entirely on claims made by Tommy Tallarico. We need another source as well, such as a claim made by Steven Tyler. If both parties agree to it, then it is far less likely to be in error. Thereaverofdarkness (talk) 07:56, 20 November 2022 (UTC)
