Swordsman[edit]

Quit changing Zoro to First Mate! He is a swordsman and is not a first mate at all. That is all they recognize him as in One Piece. I will change it back if anybody changes it to first mate. Gune (talk) 19:17, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hes the first Mate he has swords, so way not both? Samurai Cerberus (talk) 17:16, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

He is not a first mate. He has only been referred to as a Swordsman. Not once has he ever been called a first mate. Gune (talk) 17:22, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

While its obivous he fulfills the first mate role, he isn't declared it. What has been declared is that Zoro is Luffy's champion (and partner)... Swordsman is his weapon mastery and bounty hunting was his career. Angel Emfrbl (talk) 22:37, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Exactly! zoro fulfills the role of first mate. i dont remember them declaring zoro as the swordsman, —Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.53.130.66 (talk) 00:33, 9 May 2008 (UTC) He is never introduced nor referred to as the "First mate". While he is a swordsman, Luffy states he wanted Zoro as his champion/Partner (version of translation depending) during the Morgan storyline ). So to end the "Swordsman/First Mate" argument, we will the wording that Luffy used in the series from now on to save argument.[reply]

This message has been left as hidden text in the page too. This is to end the whole argument once and for all - if in doubt, use the literal translation or what the Japanese version calls him. The only job ever stated by Luffy was for Zoro to be his Champion or rather the Partner to the Pirate King.

This is from the Mihawk Vs Zoro fight (again, translation pending), from watching the early eps, this is about about all I can tell on Zoro's status:

Luffy: World's greatest swordsman! Thats it! As the Pirate King's companion if your not at least that I'll be in a dilemma.

I've already stated what the manga translations come as from other people. Angel Emfrbl (talk) 11:42, 11 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

But doesnt the Captains partner have a different title then par terns on land, what are they called again? Ohh right the First Mate. Samurai Cerberus (talk) 12:37, 11 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not ness., things like champion and partner are open roles. For example, a captain might have a first mate and a partner/champion. Angel Emfrbl (talk) 16:29, 12 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
SO Zolo is all four? He is bussy. Samurai Cerberus (talk) 18:09, 12 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Now, I never said that did I? ^_- Angel Emfrbl (talk) 19:50, 12 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That's what I thought you said.Samurai Cerberus (talk) 21:41, 12 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You thought wrong... Anyway, looking over the chapters, again nothing. I spotted "Master Swordsman" at Thriller Bark arc... But this was his status and not his role. Still nothing on "First mate". Angel Emfrbl (talk) 21:58, 12 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
But people think of him as the swordsman. Samurai Cerberus (talk) 00:23, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thats kind of the point we're making here on First Mate... Isn't it? He is never called "First Mate", he is called everything BUT that title. Which makes your orginal statement "Why not both?" wrong. Swordsman, Champion, partner... Are all correct and any one of those three can be used. But First Mate can't.
Thank you for finally saying what I wanted to hear you say. Angel Emfrbl (talk) 06:03, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

??? Samurai Cerberus (talk) 12:57, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Uuurgh... Expect this shit to flare up again. The Franky House scan of 499 had Urouge refer to Zoro as the first mate (something none of the other translations I've seen did). Just giving you a little heads up...90.227.11.157 (talk) 09:44, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I hope not. Actually it'swas the translator's choice to put "first mate". In the original raw Urouge refers to Zoro as "a second". —Preceding unsigned comment added by 201.34.23.141 (talk) 18:15, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's now clear that he is the first mate check the page 16 http://www.mangavolume.com/one-piece/chapter-one-piece-499/ —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.228.213.137 (talk) 20:32, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm waiting for Stephen's translation of the chapter since its the most accurate translation around. Angel Emfrbl (talk) 23:06, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

okay....what the heck is a champion......WHY WOULD ZORO BE A CHAMPION..... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.53.130.66 (talk) 06:02, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Okay folks, Stephens translation is out... he said "second in command". Its most likey correct. Stephen often picks up on things others mistranslate. However, without knowing the Japanese word, I can't double check this myself, this is the last thing left to do. I'll see what I can pull up... :-/ Angel Emfrbl (talk) 16:11, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, floating around Arlong Park forums is this expla on the translation: "二番手" is used which means "no.2 person" read it here. So again, no first mate, this is how someone has translated it, but its not first mate. If you read, you'll find out more about it in that link. Angel Emfrbl (talk) 20:10, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Since Stephen's translation is our most reliable source, shouldn't we classify Zoro as "warrior"? That's what's said in every One Piece volume intro. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 201.67.18.99 (talk) 03:41, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If Stephen's translation seems to suit it, why not. He has a lot of credit in the anime fandom... I guess we've only got that to rely on. I've already stated what other translations bring up; Partner, champion, swordsman. All of which are somewhere in the realms of that idea.Angel Emfrbl (talk) 12:07, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Vivi[edit]

Shudin't Vivi be in the page? Samurai Cerberus (talk) 17:45, 6 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Vivi isn't a SH. People should get over the idea she is... She is seen as a member of the SH family (Nakama), but not a crew member. Angel Emfrbl (talk) 08:09, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No. She never joined the crew. Gune (talk) 03:24, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

But we don't evin have a link to her page, we got a link for Gimon. Samurai Cerberus (talk) 12:15, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thats because we happened to mention him. If Vivi is mentioned (haven't checked) then by all means she should be linked. But we don't need to link for the sake of linking to her. Angel Emfrbl (talk) 17:29, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OK Samurai Cerberus (talk)02:33, 8 May 2008

Dumb edits[edit]

Just had to revert a dumb edit that had been left for several hours. The edit had escaped several other people edits. I'll say it once; to those who didn't fix the bad edit when you yourselves edited, shame on you! Ace, Aokiji, etc aren't crews and there is no excuse for messing up the table. Angel Emfrbl (talk) 08:09, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Epithets[edit]

Is it necessary to link to their nick names? I could understand linking to cyborg, and someone else also wanted demon, but do we need to clarify what a cat or a king is? Ban Bridges (talk) 22:17, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No we dont I just did it to see if anybody cared. Samurai Cerberus (talk) 22:26, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Don't. That is annoying and won't win you many friends on wikipedia, because now someone has to undo your stupidity. Angel Emfrbl (talk) 22:38, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Who said I wanted friends? Samurai Cerberus (talk) 23:32, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, everyone chooses their paths in life... And right now I have more important things to worry about now, like how half our articles are up for deletetion. Thats more important then someone creating x2 much work for the rest of us. Because if it falls through, we won't have anything to work on. Angel Emfrbl (talk) 22:20, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Usopp's bounty[edit]

Do not put Usopp's name on the bounty. He is known as Sogeking on the bounty. Gune (talk) 22:36, 26 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
