Spirituality[edit]

SD's are described as "dear sons and daughters", "angels" or "another yourself". Super Dollfie dolls aren't "bought", they are "welcomed" or "adopted". The "Omukae Ceremony", welcoming ceremony where the doll is put into a coffin-like box, and then welcomed by the owner. This ceremony is also performed at Tenshi no Sato, in front of Mother SD, a statue resembling the Virgin Mary.

Volks have stated that Super Dollfie is a spiritual experience, and that the dolls are linked to the owner throughout the life cycle, as well as in death. (work in progress) --Siawase (talk) 18:32, 22 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Anything on "The introduction of Super Dollfie has led to the creation of an increasing number of other BJD companies, most of them based in South Korea. The number of companies has grown rapidly since 2003"

As well as anything related to the early history of volks and super dollfie when it was mainly a resin kit company: "At this time Volks was a producer of resin model kits, and the Super Dollfie are made similarly to resin kits. Volks has stated that they were trying to create a female market for resin kits, which had previously been male dominated"

An announcement was made at Dolls Party in LA on November 24, 2007 that Volks is in the process of developing dolls that are even smaller than the Rei-Tenshi. They were referred as Ai-Tenshi and Star-Tenshi. It was hinted that the Star-Tenshi doll would be the smallest of the Tenshi line-up.

Volks Full Choice System was also shifted over to pure skin and was revamped in 2004 to include new head molds, bodies and Mini Super Dollfie.[1]

Rei-Tenshi are the smallest and newest doll type released by Volks. Standing at 10 cm tall, they were released for the first time during the Huis Ten Bosch Tour on February 22-23, 2007.[citation needed] Much like the Sei-Tenshi, these minute dolls are presented as gifts or won at special events. They are distinguished from the Sei-Tenshi by their slightly smaller size, their thumb-sucking mouth, and their lack of ball joints at the elbows, knees, wrists, and waists.

Volks has also produced a curvier and less expensive vinyl counterpart to the SD/SD13, entitled Dollfie Dream. Their proportions are more reminiscent of anime than the more realistic models.

The SD16 girl comes with solid lower legs designed to accommodate high heels without collapsing, and optional lower legs with traditional jointed ankles.

The American Tenshi no Sumika is located in Los Angeles, California. It's only open on weekends and sells dolls and accessories.[2]

Super Dollfie Cute, or SDC, are roughly the same size as Mini Super Dollfie, but their body type is more mature. Released in 2004, girl models are 420mm tall, while boy models are 440mm. Thus far they have only been available as limited edition releases.[3][4]

Yo Super Dollfie, or Yo-SD, from Japanese 幼, infant. Even more child-like than MSD, they were first released in 2004, and have so far only been avaliable as limited editions. Both girl and boy models are 265mm tall.[5][6]

Super Dollfie 16, or SD16, were introduced in 2006. They appear more mature in looks, stand taller, and have a more complex joint system than the SD13 dolls. Girl dolls are 623mm tall, while boy dolls are 650mm. Thus far they have only been available as limited editions.[7]

Super Dollfie 17, or SD17, was released in July 2007. The SD17 is slightly more mature than SD16 and features an entirely new joint configuration in the knees and thighs that enables more detailed posing. SD17 has only been released with a boy body, and is the same heigh as the SD16 boy at 650mm tall.[citation needed]

Sei-Tenshi and Rei-Tenshi are even smaller than Yo-SD. They are only given out as promotional items at Dolpa or other special events, and are not available for sale.
