Just a thought, but the Wimbledon Compendium and contemporary newspaper reports (obituaries as well as from his playing days) spell it Sidney. None of them spell it Sydney. The BMD doesn't help. 81.99.201.56 (talk) 19:33, 23 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
His Wimbledon singles record here Sidney Smith (GBR) - Gentlemen's Singles and doubles record here Sidney Smith (GBR) - Gentlemen's Doubles both spell it as Sidney the thought had crossed my mind as most British males with that name the spelling is almost always Sidney not Sydney like the Australian city. I to had a look at Free BMD nothing comes up for Stroud between Dec 1871 and June 1872 he was born in February 1872 and nothing for Sidney H Smith, however I did find his death registration in Stroud here: [1] spelt Sidney. The ATP and ITF sites have the name listed as Sydney but that's incorrect the BMD is an official government record leave a couple of days in case anybody else adds anything if not you can move the page to the correct spelling Sidney Howard Smith but provide a summary and add the death record as a citation if you cant move it I will move it.--Navops47 (talk) 04:24, 24 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
