Terminology[edit]

While being very thorough and well written, the text uses a lot of highly specialized terminology that makes it difficult to understand. Even as a biologist I found it difficult to understand much of the text because of unfamiliar terminology. I suggest to avoid specialized terms where possible. Copyright concern[edit]

Similarity has been detected between this article and marinebio.ca. Investigation is not fully conclusive, but suggests that material was not copied from that site.

The largest indication of this is that the bulk of incremental changes to this article early in its development move it closer towards the external site, rather than away from. Obviously, it's unlikely that somebody would copy an external site, make a few changes on initial paste, and then gradually change it back. [1] changes "encompasses the largest and most dominant " to "encompasses the largest and most prevalent" - the external site uses the later construction. See also [2], [3], [4] and [5].

Early in the history of the article, there appears a "", which is a common artifact of copy-pasting, but this is potentially explained by this edit summary, which suggests that at least these two primary contributors to the article were collaborating in a word document as well as polishing on Wiki.

As an uninvolved administrator, I don't believe we have sufficient reason to believe that this content was copied from elsewhere to process it as a copyright violation. If you have additional evidence that would support a conclusion of copyright infringement, please consider following the instructions at Wikipedia:Copyright problems to invite further review. If you are the copyright holder, please see Wikipedia:Copyrights#If_you_are_the_owner_of_Wikipedia-hosted_content_being_used_without_your_permission for additional options. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 12:23, 3 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Another concern: The image of Symbiodinium embedded in coral tissue appears elsewhere on internet signed D. T. Pettay and T. C. LaJeunesse.71.213.123.20 (talk) 01:14, 10 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Taxonomic revision[edit]

Based on the 2018 taxonomic revision (noted in the text), several of the sections in this article could more accurately be moved to the Symbiodiniaceae page. Does anyone have thoughts? Jtb8 (talk) 12:18, 2 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
