Hi
What is the normal TDS rate for drinking water?— Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.248.138.194 (talk) 06:12, 25 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

i do regular servicing on water filtration machines in Perth Western Australia and i read 650 average, the filtration machines take the level down to as low as 005, well that of course taking into consideration the margin of error, they could be 010 or 000, but yeah, keep in mind that Australian tap water still has fluoride in it for some ungodly reason, hence the popularity of filtered water, i hope this was helpful, the measurement used is as you probably know in Siemens units or Milli Siemens.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Fluchtig (talkcontribs) 13:07, 17 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Some examples:
  1. Evian: 357 mg/l
  2. San Pellegrino 1,109 mg/l

To 'merge TDS meter into Total dissolved solids, without the copyvio contested material— Preceding unsigned comment added by Klbrain (talkcontribs) 11:57, 12 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Could someone consider WP:DRAFTIFY? Sole source isn't WP:RS (and there may be a copyvio issue). It's dead too; http://www.tdsmeter.com/what-is-tds/ http://web.archive.org/web/20170618073154/www.tdsmeter.com/faqs exist.--50.201.195.170 (talk) 16:24, 29 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

50.201.195.170 Draftify is not an option, this page has been around far too long for that. Proposed deletion however is an option and I've applied it to the article as well as including the archived ref. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 18:10, 29 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I'd suggest trying to merge anything usable up to Total dissolved solids, which is notable (even if the article isn't great right now). --AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 18:14, 29 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
PROD declined. I'm not invested enough to take it to AfD. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 05:43, 30 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Agree with AntiCompositeNumber, so: {{Merge|Total suspended solids|target=Total dissolved solids|date=October 2019|discuss=Talk:TDS_meter}}
Adding Total suspended solids (already proposed long ago, with no objections) makes sense because only it has a description of how to measure TSS that can be used to accurately describe how to measure TDS, which in turn, is essential for describing a so-called TDS meter (more accurately defined as a TDIS meter? (I for ionized - as noted in TDS meter, "Dissolved organic solids, such as sugar [don't impact an EC or TDIS meter reading]" ) ).--50.201.195.170 (talk) 17:37, 30 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The {{Merge}} template is not intended for use on talk pages. I've moved it to the article page, where it's intended to be used. – wbm1058 (talk) 23:22, 10 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The copyvio issue can be addressed during the merge, at least with respect to cessation. First match, "the only way of measuring tds is to evaporate the water and weigh" = 13 words, not 11; and the second and third match combine into a much longer string just with "closely" moved and s/electrical conductivity/ec - "water have some electrical charge therefore it is possible to estimate the quantity of tds by determining the electrical conductivity of the water by passing a small current" ~28 words.--50.201.195.170 (talk) 10:41, 17 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@50.201.195.170: I'm back. One reason this has taken so long is the complexity of the request. Suspended solids and dissolved solids seem to be distinct concepts. It makes sense to merge a total dissolved solids (TDS) meter which measures total dissolved solids into the Total dissolved solids article. Whether Total suspended solids should be merged into Total dissolved solids is another matter requiring care that apples aren't being merged into oranges. The copyvio assertion adds another layer of complexity, and it doesn't help, as I am just now noticing, that no notice was posted to Wikipedia:Copyright problems/2020 January 17. I'm going to separate the merge requests and tackle TDS meter first. – wbm1058 (talk) 20:54, 20 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Klbrain. I had meant to tackle this sooner, but sorry I kept pushing it back to my back burner. You should sign your edits on talk pages so that it's clearly indicated who performed the merge. – wbm1058 (talk) 14:02, 22 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for substituting the unsigned template; I don't commonly forget to sign! Klbrain (talk) 14:34, 22 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
