Tan Son Nhut Officer Open Messe 7th Air Division[edit]

To whom it may concern,

My name is DUNG KHANH LE. I am writing to ask for your favor of looking up your old files to find any information about my mother who worked for Tan Son Nhut Officer Open Messe 7th Air Division before 1975. She is now in need of documents that can prove her service time at the 7th Division to file a petition with the U.S for the purpose of moving to the U.S.

Her name is VU, PHUONG LAN QUE. DOB: 8/24/1942. If any of you knows any source of information that can support the purpose, could you please contact me on dkhanhdung@bellsouth.net.

Caption on DC-3[edit]

Image incorrectly noted it as bearing US national insignia, the VNAF insignia was identical except that it substituted yellow for white on the bars and ws outlined in red. See example:

Nhat or Nhut?[edit]

505th[edit]

Re: The 620th Tactical Control Squadron ... located at Monkey Mountain - "Son Tra Air Base". Monkey Mountain was the name we gave to Son Tra. There was no Son Tra Air Base. The Air Base was at Danang, a few miles to the south. Monkey Mountain was home to the 620th T.C.S. which had its radar on hill 621; M.A.C.S.4 {Marine Radar} on hill 647; an Army "Tropo" Site and a Navy Receiver Site. The 620th maintained a smaller, satellite radar site, first at Dong Ha and later at Quang Tri.LarG (talk) 16:34, 20 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

315th[edit]

There are significant omissions and errors in dates in respect of the 315th Air Command Group (TC) and the 315th Air Commando Wing. I will address these issues soon, but it will take time because of the spread through the article of the misinformation.Lexysexy (talk) 23:33, 13 March 2011 (UTC).[reply]

I believe that the links to respectively the 315th Operations Group and the 315th Operations Wing are valid as those units carry the heritage of the units that flew in Vietnam. The dates for the activation of units within the 315th Wing cannot possibly precede the activation date for the Wing, and in any case were taken from the Air Force history notes.Lexysexy (talk) 00:58, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

image disputed[edit]

I have removed this image as I doubt strongly that it is Tan Son Nhut airbase. The C-7 Caribous of the VNAF were not based at Tan Son Nhut and the photo suggests that this image was taken at their home base, due to the number of aircraft in the image. Can anyone confirm this. Tying up the Squadron code would probably add more evidence.

North Vietnamese troops run across the tarmac of Tan Son Nhat air base in Saigon as smoke billows behind abandoned South Vietnamese Air Force de Havilland Canada C-7 Caribou and Douglas C-47 aircraft on April 30, 1975. The taking of Saigon marked the fall of the U.S.-backed Republic of Vietnam and the end to a decade of fighting.

There is a photo available showing a C-7 at Phu Cat Air Base, , which clearly shows similar revettements to the disputed image, (also used at Da Nang Air Base, the other C-7 base).

The Caribous were operated by:

  • 427th Transport Squadron - 51st Tactical Wing - 1st Air Division - Da Nang - C-7 Caribou
  • 429th Transport Squadron - 82nd Tactical Wing - 6th Air Division - Phu Cat - C-7 Caribou
  • 431st Transport Squadron - 82nd Tactical Wing - 6th Air Division - Phu Cat - C-7 Caribou

Move article to Tan Son Nhat Airbase[edit]

Tan Son Nhut Air Base is the name for the air base which based on Tan Son Nhat International Airport before 1975.

Nowaday, Vietnam People's Air Force is using the military facility of this airport under the name Tân Sơn Nhất. I request a petition to change the name of this page and add information for the time period 1975-present.

509th FIS Detachment 1[edit]

The 509th FIS from Clark AB in the Phillipines moved from Tan Son Nuit in Dec 1966 to Ben Hoa AB to make room for other units. It remained there until recalled to the Phillipines. Aim2A (talk) 18:31, 24 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
