Advice[edit]

This article reads like an advert. For example, "The company sells electronic toys, games and learning aids featuring top-tier licensed brands" is exactly the kind of marketing gibberish you find in an investor publication, but not in anything designed to be read by real people.

Also, it makes no assertion of notability. This is important. Read WP:CORP and then read some articles on some notable toy manufacturers (try Mattel and Hasbro) and you'll get a better idea of what makes a good article.

Sorry if you're having a hard time with your first article... it often happens that way, but stick with it and... welcome. --Dweller 16:43, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Formatting advice[edit]

I agree that formatting in Wikipedia is tough for a newbie. I advise that for this article you get the content in and leave the formatting - either to others, or until you're done adding new content.

Better practise for the future is to create your article in a sandbox until you're satisfied it's a half-way decent article that won't get tagged as soon as you post it. --Dweller 17:17, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

P.S.[edit]

Sign your comments on talk pages with four tildes (i.e. type ~~~~ at the end of your comments) and Wikipedia automatically adds your name and time of posting. Dweller 17:18, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Toy of the Year[edit]

Which "Toy of the Year" award, specifically, was this nominated for? And how easy is it to be nominated (can you just fill out a form yourself and then say, "hey, we've been nominated") --Dweller 17:52, 11 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Response to Dweller: I looked into the award guidelines on the TIA (awarding body) site and it is a multi-stage process. From mid-September to the end of October in 2005, any toy company could write in a nomination for a product they believe deserves one of the 11 Toy of the Year awards. The TIA reviews all of the written nominations, tabulates them, and culls down the list to 5 nominees in each category. The TIA sends out this paper ballot to all TIA members who vote for the winner in each category. The winners were announced in February 2006. See the following site for reference:

I also looked into this, once you added the source. I made up my mind to Strong Keep on the deletion page. Well done! --Dweller 11:24, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Jay 23 12:36, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The 'See also' section is for mainstream Wikipedia links which this is not. I also do not see the need for this link. External links are to validate statements not promote products. BlueValour 16:04, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Response to BlueValour: My intention was not to promote this product. It is a preexisting Wikipedia page about a product that the company manufactures. If you look at the Jakks Pacific page, they have a cross-link to the TV Games page and vice versa. I thought that linking the two pages would make sense for the same reason. Jay 23 16:44, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It is a wiki page (there are many wikis) but not a Wikipedia page - click on this heading. The link to Jakks TV Games is an orthodox Wikipedia link. I admit I am not sure of the connection, if any, between the two - perhaps someone can help? BlueValour 17:40, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
