music machine[edit]

should there be any mention about the musical machine in front of the front doors of the twos? it is (in my opinion) a rather important or atleast eye catching feature of the building

Telus World of Science, Edmonton → Telus World of Science (Edmonton) — To match Telus per acronyms policy, and because the comma convention only applies to "city, province" constructions. For buildings we usually use parentheses. --Kevlar (talk • contribs) 22:20, 3 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No, it should be parentheses:
  • Telus World of Science is not a settlement
  • There are multiple Telus World of Sciences across Canada, one I know is in Calgary. Edmonton needs to be there so it disambiguates these Telus World of Sciences.174.3.98.236 (talk) 19:23, 6 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see how "it's not a settlement" is anything to do with it. This is geographical disabiguation (i.e. distinguishing it by where rather that what it is), so it should have a comma. 81.111.114.131 (talk) 23:03, 6 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

My understanding was that comma disambiguation is used when I higher district is involved or when dealing with cities, towns, villages and other settlements themselves (WP:NCGN), not simply as a general rule (ex: The Union Stations).--Labattblueboy (talk) 12:39, 8 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Comment I have moved the page to correct the capitalized "TELUS" issue, as that portion of the move is strictly procedural based on the naming guidelines. The preemptive move should not be taken as a comment on the debate between using commas and parentheses; that will be resolved through the consensus reached in this ongoing move discussion.   • Support as proposed. The comma disambiguation is for places and not things as stated in WP:NCDAB. All other articles should generally use parenthesis for disambiguation since that is the standard for the wiki. – This is the only venue currently named "Telus World of Science", and the one most closely associated with the name.   • To clarify: The Calgary Science Centre opened in 1987, and was only known as Telus World of Science from 2005 until its closure in 2011. The venue in Vancouver was for a time known as "Science World at the Telus World of Science", so that one is actually a PTM. The venue in Edmonton has used the name "Telus World of Science", both officially and commonly, for almost 20 years now. 162 etc. (talk) 20:55, 13 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support. Reliable sources since the expiration of the Vancouver naming rights largely follow the name change. WP:NAMECHANGES: "If the reliable sources written after the change is announced routinely use the new name, Wikipedia should follow suit and change relevant titles to match."     • Good points, and WP:NAMECHANGES is certainly relevant. But this isn't just about the naming of the other two candidates for the name Telus World of Science, one of which is of course the one at Vancouver. Rather it is about whether the one at Edmonton is now the primary topic, or whether it still requires disambiguation to distinguish it from the other two.
