Anyone know how to get the "unsourced statements" tag removed from this article? Don't see any such line that can be removed from the article template, and every fact in there is sourced (save for the question about her & King Coffey not being siblings).Thehaikumaster 17:08, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know how to directly quote a book (on the page itself as a reference that is), but once again, referring to Michael Azerrad's Our Band Could Be Your Life, it says on page 280: "Figuring they could beef up the sound with another drummer, they drafted Austin art-punk musician Teresa Taylor (aka Teresa Nervosa) that fall. She and Coffey bore a strong resemblance, and they often told interviewers they were brother and sister." Roman Dog Bird 20:26, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Only question then becomes, who gave Azerrad that info? Is it based on direct quotes from the band members? Barring that, does he cite a source? (Or provide a reference?) I'm not trying to say that the author's definitely wrong, especially as I've also heard various rumors that they're not actually brother/sister. (Additionally, the Austin Chronicle's excellent article about the Touch & go reissues refers to them as "twins from different parents," which also seems to indicate they're not related, but could also mean that one was adopted, they were step-siblings, etc.) But every interview, bio, etc. that I've found so far has them referring to each other as brother/sister, and I'd hate to throw it out on what is one author's say-so so far.

At any rate, when you get a chance please post on this talk page any sources/references/etc that Azerrad might mention regarding the brother/sister question. Regardless, I'm going to change the brother/sister mention on this page to reflect the controversy. Will also eventually work it into the main Surfers bio page, which I plan on majorly updating over the next week or so. Paul Leary and King Coffey were interviewed for the Butthole Surfers chapter, since most of the quotes in it come from them. The specific fact about Taylor not being Coffey's sister isn't an actual quote, but I can assume that either Leary or Coffey might have told Azerrad that they just made it up, and he paraphrased it.Roman Dog Bird 02:23, 6 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, King (and apparently Paul Leary) were interviewed for the Butthole Surfers chapter in that book. Some of the quotes in that chapter were lifted from old band interviews, but some were definitely directly from King and Paul. King and Teresa do have a close resemblance, but alas, it was one of the band's many ongoing jokes. Which is why many articles on the band mention them as being siblings. I have a couple old 'zine interviews where King gave a more sober and less jokey interview and said that they weren't actual siblings. I can dig them up and cite it if necessary. Also, I seriously doubt King was in a marching band. It was probably another joke of theirs, but sometimes it's hard to tell. Can't be sure with Teresa (she may very well have been). He has said that he didn't have any formal training on the drums -- he basically bought a drum kit so he play in the Hugh Beaumont Experience. Then he lost his kick drum pedal and that's how he started his unique stand-up drumming technique. Gruntmaster flush 04:55, 6 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fast Times at Ridgemont High[edit]

She was listed as having appeared in "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" in her filmography, but I was unable to find a source for that anywhere. IMDB and Letterboxd both fail to list her as an actor in that movie, and there were no results on a Google search. I pulled it out for now, but if someone's got a source, feel free to put it back in!
