Band Members[edit]

Ok, there isnt much on the actual band members, soo i was thinking of just creating one single artical for all 4 members of the band, instead of the 4 pages (one for each member, except iwan as his page was deleted.)

anyone agree this would be a good idea???

This information could easily be put into the main article - I'm going to merge tag it and if no one objects merge it in. These guys are not notable enough (yet) as individuals to warrant their own articles, their notability lies in being members of the band. Madmedea 15:58, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Support As it stands the article just repeats what has been said in the main article on the band. Any additional biographical information can be put into the history of the band. Oggy 10:43, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Against I'm working on adding in new sources, including equipment, notable performances and personal life. Seeming as i have already removed the page for each member of the band, this article should be kept and expanded upon, and seeming as i m one of the only people that actually works a lot on making this article i think we should keep it as a separate page. Instead of adding more merge tags in perhaps help to gather up interviews and sources we can use to expand the article? Thanks

perhaps the artical could just be expanded upon? the original articals for each member have already been removed, so one page for all band members isnt alot.

  • Alex Pennie is leaving the band after the gigs on weekend of August bank holiday because everybody had enough of his one dimensional idea of him yapping like a scottish terrier through every song —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.106.167.105 (talk) 00:39, August 25, 2007 (UTC)
Shame, I have fears that they'll become just another also-ran similar-sounding grungy guitar outfit without the synth parts and his demented squealing to add that little bit of colour and uniqueness. Even if you can't tell what's being 'sung'. 82.46.180.56 (talk) 03:27, 28 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

To Do List....[edit]

Date[edit]

I went to school with the Automatic. They have been gigging for years, way before 2004. can somebody change this to about 2002? I don't know how.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 131.111.238.108 (talkcontribs) 13:13, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

Will do. Thanks. Oggy 14:13, 27 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Picture[edit]

Hi, I put a picture in but it won't work because I don't know how to insert pictures from websites. If someone clever would like to fix it up for me it'd be great, thanks in advance.

  • You have to upload the image first. First, save the picture onto your computer. (Probably into 'My Documents'.) Then, go here, use the 'Browse' button to find the file, give it a title, select a license from the menu, and upload it. See Wikipedia:Uploading images for more. Hope that helps. Influences[edit]

I've removed the bit that says they're influenced by "everyone" because that's ridiculous. I've included Jarcrew in their brief influence list because apart from the fact that they've taken Jarcrew to town so badly that they should probably write them a cheque, the Jarcrew "connection" has been acknowledged several times by the band, including as a comment on a Jarcrew FanSpace. John..

It's not ridiculous at all. Any band will be influenced by every single artist they encounter. It doesn't have to be positive influence. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.141.241.186 (talk) 16:18, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The 'GMTV Incident'[edit]

I removed everything that was written about what happened on GMTV for a couple of reasons:

  • It was mentioned twice! If it's going to be mentioned at all it should only be a short reference.
  • One mention of it wasn't very neutral - "in a failed attempt to increase their credibility".
  • The other mention probably needed some severe rewriting.

If anyone wants to add it back in then can I ask that you just note my comments. I'll have some time to improve other bits of the article in the coming few days. Thanks. Oggy 14:53, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Singles[edit]

ok the automatic have 5 singles, would it be better to keep just the current 3 on the main page? and then have the full 5 singles on the Not Accepted Anywhere page, as well i thought it may look quite good if there were pictures for each band member with there name, if that even makes sense. oh and some of the pictures i have recently uploaded for use on the automatics page may disapear some time soon, i keep forgeting the license stuff, just to let anyone who edits this page know!

Post Hardcore[edit]

no one will believe this i know, but i have heard one of their songs that i believe to be hardcore - "Epic" - i got it with an issue of Kerrang!Adil Ghanty 19:45, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Epic is a cover. And it isn't hardcore, it's alternative rock. --↑ɻθʉɭђɥл₮₴Ṝ 21:39, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Images in The Automatic main article[edit]

I am going to say this here, to the people who keep reverting all of the image emplacements of The Automatic main page, stop. The images have been released both on theautomatic.co.uk, and publicly By The Automatic on there Forum, they have also been available on MP3.com, Myspace, purevolume [NME], haystack and many more, also 'Raw Books' is NOT the name of the new album. and a reference keep being repaired and then broken by this wikiwar. I am not going to stop reverting, obviously an admin can stop me but this is ridiculous, you are interrupting wiki guidelines in a stupid way and finding new problems with any image uploaded, you are more obsessed with ruining articles than actually improving them. (LemonLemonLemons 14:49, 28 September 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Unless they were released under a free license (GFDL, one of the Creative Commons ones or even into the public domain), they are copyrighted and considered fair use. We have policies to limit the number of fair use images. Provided there are free images (there is one), then there is no reason to use non-free images. We are a free encyclopedia, not a free encyclopedia that we can put unlimited copyrighted content into. ^demon[omg plz] 15:19, 28 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
On a similar note, I notice Image:Theautomaticlogo.png is being used here. That is also a non-free image and if it is genuinely a logo, it should be easy to find reliable, third-party sources which discuss it. If not, I believe it should be removed. --John (talk) 19:18, 22 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Considerations of creating new pages[edit]

At the moment for many of the songs i have found out alot behind the songs and the way they perform it and what the lyrics are about ect, I'm considering creating pages on some of the other songs from Not Accepted Anywhere, to free up this Not Accepted Anywhere#Track listing#Song Meanings and other parts of various articles, obviously i still need more infomation on some of the songs but i fell there is probably enough infomation for articles on By My Side and Thats What She Said, perhaps others as well, anyone have any strong objections to this? 2008 Tour Images[edit]

Does anyone have any they would mind putting on the page as of yet there are no images featuring the new line-up.(LemonLemonLemons (talk) 16:36, 7 April 2008 (UTC))[reply]

Should awards be a list or not?[edit]

Should the awards section be a list, a table, or just written out as a paragraph? (86.160.198.158 (talk) 19:42, 15 May 2008 (UTC))[reply]

Band members[edit]

None of the band members appear to be independently notable; they are referenced only in connection with this band. Therefore, the descriptions of these persons belong in this article, not in four separate articles. If this article becomes too long such that it may be appropriate to split out the section on the band members, then a single subpage on the band members should be made; see Wikipedia:Subpages for more information. —Centrxtalk • 01:33, 16 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The article is already getting very long, i see no real reason to get rid of the band members, there lists of equipment and other such parts can't be put in the main article, how about instead of moaning about there articles not being notable you actually help expand them. Bob the Builder[edit]

I've heard from several music industry sources that the company which owns Bob the Builder approached The Automatic a couple of years ago to request that it be allowed to rework 'Monster' as Bob's 2006 Christmas single: the stories I've heard say that the band turned down the request, as they feared fans would start singing the reworked version ("What's that coming over the hill? It's Bob the Builder, Bob the Builder") at them during gigs. I can't find much evidence of this, aside from Popbitch (archived here ). Does anyone know how much truth there is in the story?
