Problems with this article[edit]

This article suffers from two principal problems: WP:NPOV and WP:STYLE. As for the first, the problem is essentially that the article takes on the boos's POV. Thus, we read:

  • 1 "Parents’ demands for achievement have crowded out children’s autonomic development."
  • 2 "Many very successful people are perfectly miserable on the inside. "
  • 3 "In terms of parenting, “do as I say not as I do” obviously does not work well."

These are opinions; perhaps sound, perhaps unsound, but opinions all the same. They must be cited as the author's e.g. 2 "The author argues that there is links between financial success and psychological well-being are tenuous, if they exist at all[citation needed]"

Which brings me to my second point -- style. This article is not witten in an encyclopedic style and has rather severe grammatical problems and other usage issues.

  • "The kids that Dr. Levine meets in her practice..."
  • "The author contrasts these kids [sic] external house (homes with everything you [sic] could materially want) with their deprived inner house (inner psychological resources, autonomy, independence, awareness, character)."

This article fails to meet the standards outlined in WP:STYLE.

There are many other examples that I could discuss, but there is no need to do so. I have tagged the article with {{NPOV}} and {{Style}}; please do not remove these tags without addressing these two systemic problems. --Zantastik talk 03:17, 2 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Abbreviation suggested[edit]

This article essentially presents a digest of the subject book. This is not an encyclopedia article, it is a book report. The encyclopedia article would follow the Manual of Style for non-fiction book articles. If I don't get any objects, I propose to delete the digest content and, to as great a degree possible, create an article per the MoS. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 20:21, 19 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Article has been rewritten per MoS at WP:Wikiproject Books. The lack of reliable source speaks ill of the notability of this book, however. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 02:09, 24 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've just come across this page, and find that it is now too short and biased against the author. This is not better than it used to be. I'd suggest putting back one or two paragraphs per book section. Rixs (talk) 12:29, 8 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
