Eurocentric[edit]

Seems very Eurocentric. Do these food "critics" even go to Asia? If they did, they'd realize they'd have to seriously reassess their lisjjjfjjake a list that does not include Asia, they could at least remove the word "World" from the name. 01:30, 12 April 2006 (UTC)

Your point is taken, but the page says it's chefs, not critics. And if you'd like a "Top 50 World" list, by all means, do your own, by polling - I'd love to see a less Anglo-centric list. And it's is Anglo, not Euro centric, if you ask me - it's a Brit company and mag that does the list. Netdance 03:49, 27 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I beg to differ, a French list would NEVER place hakkassan in the top 50 (there are FAAAAAR better Asian restaurant than this in the world, which illustrates the Anglo centricism mentioned bytthe person above (Hakkasan is located in London), And Chez Panisse in the USA is laughable. it shouldn't be short-listed in the 1000 (this is a French restaurant and I am French so one can't accuse me of being biased). This list is more than subjective and it should really come with the understanding of the composition of the Jury (and their nationalities) in Wikipedia, which is supposed to be an Encyclopedia. Only then could the list be valuable as it would be able to be interpreted for what it is. Right now it lacks credibility. This should be stated in the "crticism" of the list.
I am one of the regional chairs of this list, and while in the past the list has indeed seemed very Eurocentric, last year 13 Asian restaurants made it into the top 100. That's hardly eurocentric. Nor is the list Anglo. If you refer to the list, you will see there are very few British restaurants on it. Our jury hails in from every corner of the world, from Brunei to Argentina. Copyvio?[edit]

Even if these lists aren't direct copyright violations, aren't they violations of the magazine's intellectual property in the compiled lists? We should probably remove everything except the list at the top. Brianyoumans (talk) 20:00, 5 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

While it might technically be right, I doubt the owners of the list would mind, it just provides further exposure to their brand and probably doesn't not infringe on their business model. I suggest we leave it in wikipedia unless a complaint by the owners is raised.

Flag of Catalonia or flag of Spain[edit]

An anon editor is changing the Flag of Spain Spain to the Flag of Catalonia Catalonia. Catalonia is an autonomous communities of Spain. This would seem to be equivalent to changing the UK United Kingdom next to The Fat Duck to the Berkshire flag Berkshire or the American flag United States next to The French Laundry to the California flag California. I would think many would be unaware of where these (Catalonia, Berkshire, California) locations are and would find it confusing. Given that, the Spanish flag would seem more appropriate. The source: http://www.theworlds50best.com/list/1-50-winners does not give the region, such as California, Berkshire, or Catalonia. theworlds50best.com just gives the city and country. The article is narrowly about The World's 50 Best Restaurants list. Whatever the merits of the Catalonia flag debate, The World's 50 Best Restaurant's list only uses "Spain" a geographic marker to designate restaurants in Barcelona et al. With due respect, it would be stretching a point to impose a new geographic marker where none is used by the list itself. --Aw1805 (talk) 21:42, 17 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Should we have a list article like those of the Michelin-starred ones?[edit]

So that people can understand the change over the years? It’s obviously a monumental task, but the current article is more about the top 3 instead of the top 50. Thanks Supermann (talk) 20:53, 14 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
