Australian culture[edit]

I think that it is a little bit cheeky to just list those five horses and to say we are providing some of Australia's great sporting icons, especially as 3 of the 5 were not Australian bred. The horses I named were at least OZ bred. Cgoodwin (talk) 23:54, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't realise that where a horse was foaled was the sole determining factor in a horse's nationality. Don't tell the Kiwis. They'll probably claim Phar Lap as one of theirs! And the Poms will make similar claims about Makybe Diva! Heaven forbid :-) - Cuddy Wifter (talk) 01:57, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Elaboration for Melbourne Racing[edit]

If someone who knew nothing read this article they would assume racing in NSW is the premier racing. I think the introduction should mention that horse racing in Victoria, in particular Melbourne, Is daylights ahead of Sydney especially for it's worth to the people. 90% of sydneysiders would not know anything and have no participation in the sport. Horse racing only holds major cultural significance in Victoria. Even in WA and SA everyone knows when their big races are on and gets involved. Sydneys only saving grace is its large population. More people turned out in both Adelaide and Brisbane than in Sydney to see Black Caviar and they have 1/3 the population. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Stevethegeo (talkcontribs) 11:49, 15 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
