Contradiction[edit]

The author states under History that Hugh Trenchard gave gifts to tribal chiefs. Under Social Organization, second paragraph, he states that the Tiv have no chiefs. Which is it? Josephlestrange (talk) 17:41, 5 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Traditionally, the Tiv had no chiefs (political decisions were made by lineage elders), the British administration established a paramount chief, Tor Tiv in 1948. Hence, if Hugh Trenchard gave any gifts, it must have been to elders, not chiefs. See [[1]], [[2]] Bemmax (talk) 09:34, 10 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Number?[edit]

So how many Tiv are there? The article says 5.6 million, and the information box says 2 million.

Removing redirect[edit]

This currently redirects to the Tiv language page. This means there is no page on Wikipedia discussing the actual Tiv people. I'm removing the redirect and adding a stub on the Tiv. Rjhatl 14:28, 18 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright concern[edit]

I see now that the original article is licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0. However, that still leaves the problem that version 4.0 is apparently not compatible with version 3.0 currently used by Wikipedia. --Hrisse (talk) 20:52, 8 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for picking this up, Hrisse. Indeed, the CC BY-SA 4.0 licence is not compatible here, and I have reverted to the version before that large block of content was added. I was also slightly concerned at the large block of unreferenced text added with this edit in 2007, but I didn't find any source that it might have been copied from – it is perhaps someone's school essay.
