[edit] Etymology

The etymology section currently says that Toa Payoh comes from "Chinese" -- this is not specific enough. Which dialect is it from? Obviously not Mandarin, but I wouldn't know. If anyone out there has access to Savage & Yeoh, that would be a place to start. They're usually quite the authority on this, and more often than not, they're careful to be specific about these things. Unfortunately I don't have a copy handy, but if someone in Singapore could confirm this, that'd be great. JREL (talk) 13:24, 6 August 2008 (UTC)

Furthermore, it would seem that 巴窑 does not mean 'swamp' but is simply phonetic -- but phonetic for what? For Malay paya, which does mean 'swamp'? I feel like rewriting that section, but I don't have any solid evidence for it. JREL (talk) 16:35, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
