Separate article[edit]

I feel that tsukimi is sufficiently different from the Mid-Autumn festival that it deserves its own article. Tsukimi is more related to Japanese appreciation of nature like the tradition of cherry blossom / autumn foliage viewing. I'd like to make a Tsukimi article (noting the relation to Mid-Autumn festival) if there are no objections Notnotchris 21:56, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Translated from Japanese Wikipedia[edit]

I have translated much of the content of the Japanese page 月見 for this page. Unfortunately, that page features essentially no sources, so I have not yet been able to add sources to this one, either. In addition, much of that content was WP:Trivia, such as a list of places where one can participate in Tsukimi in Japan and China, and a list of novels, poems, and plays that mention Tsukimi. I have not translated these trivia lists. I did translate the section "Tsukimi related foods", but it seems like unreferenced original research. Perhaps it needs to be removed. Relationship to Hounen-Odori[edit]

I sometimes see Hounen-Odori compared to Mid-Autumn Festival, and am wondering how it's related to Tsukimi. Do the two fall on different dates? yellowtailshark (talk) 05:19, 28 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Improper linking[edit]

The link to the 月見 article at the bottom of this article in the "See Also" section obviously points to an article in the Japanese version of Wikipedia. This should not have been done. If the article is the Japanese version of this article, which is in English, then the link should be in the left column under "Languages" where 4 links already exist.

Date of full moon (13th vs 15th of lunar month)[edit]

I found this text in the article:

From 862 until 1683, the Japanese calendar was arranged so that the full moon fell on the 13th day of each month. In 1684, however, the calendar was altered so that the new moon fell on the first day of each month, moving the full moon two days later, to the 15th day of the month. While some people in Edo (present-day Tokyo) shifted their Tsukimi activities to the 15th day of the month, others continued to observe the festival on the 13th day.

Apparently, that is false. I asked about this, and apparently the full moon has nevewr been the 13th day of the lunar month. It has always been on or about the 15th day of the lunar month, as at present.
