Is this part of Bike Route 76: [1] --NE2 23:10, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. That section of the Bike Route 76 is on page 38 of the KY bike trails map (.pdf) which is linked from the article. Don Braffitt 02:58, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It would be great if someone could develop or find a map of US Bicycle Route 76 and include it in the article as a part of the article, or by way of an external link... (...I can't find one online...) Xenophon777 02:49, 17 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Try File:Bikecentennial Map.JPG from the Bikecentennial page. --His Manliness (talk) 17:33, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The "non-existent traffic" claim sounds like anti-bike propaganda — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.171.250.36 (talk) 13:20, 23 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I think the writer of that statement intended another meaning, but it could be misconstrued. I removed it. –Sparkgap (talk) 05:53, 25 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Is it actually a separate trail?[edit]

Is it actually a separate trail? Or does it just use roads with cars, etc. on them? Fxm12 (talk) 13:56, 30 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

In the part I traveled in Roanoke and Montgomery counties Virginia, it is rural roads very sparsely traveled by both bicycles and cars except for a few locals. 66.190.80.176 (talk) 16:44, 16 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Only “east of Kansas”?[edit]

I'm confused. There is an unsourced statement that 76 is only east of Kansas. Yet there is a commons photo showing a 76 sign at Fairplay, Colorado... See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:TransAmerica_Fairplay.jpg Am I missing something? Xenophonix (talk) 20:01, 19 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

But then there's this sign pointing from SR 762 south on SR 91. Presumably this is a former alignment (it may have followed SR 650 and SR 670 to Sugar Grove). --NE2 04:11, 21 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Corrections required[edit]

The route is NOT known as the TransAmerica Bike Route nor is it “contained within the TransAmerica Bicycle Trail.”  History section language structure needs significant improvement.  Proposed language below.

Bicycle Route USBR 76 originated as the Bikecentennial Trans America Trail.  The route was created for a large bike bicycle travelers wishing to ride across the United States as a way to celebrate the tour organized for the 1976 celebration of the United States Bicentennial. The Adventure Cycling Association was at that time also known as the "Bikecentennial."

USBR 76 was established in 1982 as an one of the original U.S. Bicycle Routes, along with U.S. Bicycle Route 1 from Florida to in Virginia and North Carolina. Bicycle traffic along a good deal of Bicycle Route 76 has been sparse to practically non-existent for several years. However, a An AASHTO Task Force was established in 2003 conference to encouraged the establishment of new interstate bicycle routes, as well as proposing the extension extending the two existing ones. The US Bicycle Route System National Corridor Plan established by the Task Force envisioned USBR 76's western terminus being conjectured on the Oregon coast. Since 2014, the annual Trans Am Bike Race has used the route.

KY mileage is wrong.  Correct mileage is 482.7.  References 2, 3, 8, 14, 15 bad links.  Add link to Adventure Cycling USBRS maps: https://www.adventurecycling.org/usbrsmaps

I am the Adventure Cycling Association US Bicycle Route System Volunteer Coordinator. I am a volunteer with Adventure Cycling, have been working as a volunteer on the USBRS since 2004, and am not paid in any way by them or anyone else associated with the USBRS. I am a retiree and receive no income from any source other than pension, Social Security, and investments. I say this because I have been informed that I have a conflict of interest and therefore am not permitted to edit any pages associated with the USBRS. This despite the fact that I am actively involved with AASHTO, see all the USBR applications submitted by the DOTs, work directly with the DOTs in developing USBRS and in preparing their applications to AASHTO for USBR designation, and possess the historical documents associated with the USBRS and benefit in no way from providing this information to Wikipedia.
