Character name spelling in quote[edit]

I corrected the spelling of 'Gerard' in a quote from ReelViews. ReelViews uses the spelling "Girard" throughout the review, but obviously this is in error. Aristan (talk) 03:08, 12 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Spin-off versus stand-alone sequel?[edit]

The movie is described as a spin-off. To me, this implies that the movie focuses more on something introduced in the first movie, but this isn’t really the case.

I would describe it as a “stand-alone sequel” (already well-defined here on Wikipedia)

It’s not a huge deal, I’m just curious to see what others think

How have sources described it? DonIago (talk) 05:23, 11 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I’m not sure what is accepted as source for this sort of thing; I don’t normally edit on this side of WP. That being said, preliminary Googling indicates that it is either described as “the sequel to 1993 film The Fugitive” while I also see “sequel/spin-off” used. IMDB uses “sequel” it would seem. The WP sequel article describes a “stand-alone sequel” as “…a work set in the same universe, yet has very little, if any, narrative connection to its predecessor, and can stand on its own without a thorough understanding of the series.” Not for nothing, but the article doesn’t currently have a source backing its description as a “spin-off,” either…MWFwiki (talk) 06:28, 12 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
IMDb isn't reliable, so its description is immaterial in any case. Personally I'd be hesitant to use 'spin-off', when as far as I know there were never any follow-ups to this film, but that may be my own bias creeping in. If 'stand-alone sequel' is a reasonable description of this film, then I don't have an issue with that. Without reviewing the article itself, I guess the best argument for 'spin-off' would be if this film had been intended to launch a franchise of its own. DonIago (talk) 14:18, 12 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
