Proposed Deletion[edit]

  • Still working on making this more in depth —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rexsmith100 (talkcontribs) 18:53, 9 June 2010 (This comment was moved from the main article to the talk page by Notyourbroom (talk) 19:36, 9 June 2010 (UTC)).[reply]
  • I did not create this article, but it seems this is a case relating to WP:NEWTREAT. Pitt Rep certainly is notable in the Pittsburgh region and can support its own article. I will work with the creator to enhance the article quality. CrazyPaco (talk) 19:35, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Just a suggestion: How about seeing if the page creator would consider userfication or incubation until notability is proven? — TRANSPORTERMAN (TALK) 20:14, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
To me, this article is reasonably well done, and I would rank it higher than start class, but I limited myself to changing the templates to importance=mid. The subject is notable, and the quality is being improved. --DThomsen8 (talk) 12:50, 16 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed Reformatting of the page[edit]

  • I have been interning for Special Collections at the University of Pittsburgh and have taken great interest in this page. I was looking possibly breaking up the information into categories and organizing them to make it more user friendly. Hammel a (talk) 19:33, 15 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Before you do this, you may want to consider WP:MOS as well as some basic Wikipedia policies. You may want to contact me first before proceeding. CrazyPaco (talk) 20:11, 15 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The breaking into sections was good, although the subsections weren't really adhering to standard Wikipedia styles. However, the removal of copious sourced material, in-line citations, wikilinks, and, in general, questionable choices in replacing some text with non-encylcopedic styles of writing while citing large portions of text (and thus multiple statements of fact) with only card catalog indexes as opposed to citations directly linking on-line secondary and primary sources for each statement of fact, was actually quite detrimental to the article. Please consider reviewing some important guidelines and policies such as WP:CITE, WP:V, WP:NOTE, WP:MOS, WP:OR, WP:CON and WP:COI for further information. Please consider engaging in a dialogue before making further drastic changes. CrazyPaco (talk) 05:44, 30 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Discrepancies of Pitt Players founding[edit]

Several sources cite the Pitt Players as having been founded in 1916, and no mention of the group is found prior (per the student yearbook, first mentions in chancellor reports, commencement programs, programs, etc). However, the ULS's archive collection's synopsis of their history states that its first play occurred in 1914. No direct references other than possible Pitt Weekly press clipping, referred to in the ULS archives but not digitized, gives a hint to the group existing prior to 1916, and it thus seems that any such group might have been an alternative dramatic club or informal forerunner (although there seems to be no mention of such a group in any early publications). What is the nature of the discrepancies between the ULS's brief historical synopsis and history in other sources such as the Owl or lack of evidence of earlier existence by primary sources? Is there a way we can reconcile these discrepancies and create a better timeline of the Pitt Player's early development? CrazyPaco (talk) 05:25, 30 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Your link was already described above, and is the actual origin of the discrepancy. The only thing useful would be examining Series IV, Folder 13 clippings which are not digitized. CrazyPaco (talk) 06:42, 1 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
