Untitled[edit]

I made minor edits of punctuation, grammar, and especially capitalization -- and forgot to so note that in the edit summary box. Will do better next time.Bardavia (talk) 00:39, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

information about master in business administration & rules to gain marit

There seem to be two pages... oen for Univeristy of Punjab and one for Universiy of the Punjab... with the same content... it shoudl only be the later

Yes I agree.. University's offcial name is "University of the Punjab", so there is no need of another title "University of Punjab". So I must say these two title should be merged over "University of the Punjab".

= Relationship with Government College University?[edit]

on thr result page of pu.edu.pk there should be other options like search by name and institute name.

Needs citing[edit]

An editor correctly rm the following because there was no citation.

"Punjab University is one of the worst affected Public sector University, by Political impacts of Pakistani Political parties, in the country. For years it has been dominated by the student wing of Jamaat Islami called the Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT). Often this group has resorted to high handed means and extremism to retain control over the University affairs and student's say. It has implemented it's own model on the University administration and students. Whilst holding it's own events and programs on the campus venue it confronts other groups from holding their events which has in the past led to severe clashes, incidents of open use of weapons are not hidden from public. One of the famous incidents involving the Pakistani Politician Imran Khan - chief of Pakistan Tehreek Insaf- was badly beaten and tortured inside the University when he came to visit the university during a rally by the students against the Government imposed Emergency in November 2007. Much public and media hue and cry was raised over this man handling of a national hero and popular leader but owing to it's age old control and use of torture cells, blackmail, and a large gang often procured from Mansoora (Jamaat Islami headquarters located close to the campus) as well as Government Science College Wahdat Road and Government Islamia College Civil lines it is able to retain it's terrorist model on this University. Often University canteens, cafeterias and shops are forced to pay a sort of tax to this Student group which finance it's activities. For quite a long time, Shandy Cola (produced by one of Jamaat Islami member) was the only drink available across the University canteens but that has changed after the Administration's effort to curb some of the group's control. Also University administration funds and hostel mess funds are taken away under the name of student welfare by this group as a means to provide an income to the groups loyal leaders and workers. Brandishing their own Taliban-styled Islam the group doesn't allow girls and boys to talk or sit together and for a long time prevented Internet facilities and musical classes to be held on campus. Anyone opposing this would be severely thrashed and often tortured as has been the case of University Guards and some professors beaten up by this group - most notably Professor Iftikhar Baloch in 2011.

Also the group has been involved in Sectarian clashes. It has incited common hatred against the Barelvis, Shias and Ahmadis across the University by preaching their brand of Islam. It has opposed violently the open activities of groups like Anjuman Talaba Islam (ATI) - Barelvi Sunni group. Also it burnt down room of ATI head during one of the student Union elections in the 1980s to wrest control. In 2011 it attacked an event by Shia students which led to a clash where many were injured. This was seen as a step by the IJT to have it's own Vice Chancellor instated after the expiry of the term of PRofessor Mujahid Kamran on 31st December 2011.

Such measures have greatly affected the Educational atmosphere of the University and prevented youth from freely expressing their say on university and national affairs. Often the University administration is not supported by the Government for it's efforts to curb control of such militant groups owing to political adjustment with Jamaat Islami. Sincere efforts are needed to allow the University to function openly as an alma mater of all it's student then an outpost for one political party and it's thugs."

IMO this needs citing (and rewording to make it npov). Student7 (talk) 03:09, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
