Requested move[edit]

Talk:Uusimaa (region) — Uusimaa (region) → Uusimaa – Currently there are two disambiguation pages for Uusimaa: Uusimaa and Uusimaa (disambiguation). This can be very confusing, since most of the people who type "Uusimaa" want to go straight to the article which is currently under the name Uusimaa (region). I suggest Uusimaa (region) is moved to its proper article, which is Uusimaa, and which will leave Uusimaa (disambiguation) as the sole disambiguation page. Besides, the straight equivalent of Uusimaa (region) in the Finnish Wikipedia is Uusimaa. [1] --Thorri 14:41, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

From the former Uusimaa talk page:

This used to be a disambiguation page but I moved the page to Uusimaa (disambiguation) and I'm going to write a whole new article about Uusimaa here. So therefore Uusimaa (region) is a totally useless and frankly, inadequate article. It is best for all of us to have the actual article about Uusimaa under the name Uusimaa, not "Uusimaa (region)".

I would appreciate if someone would delete the Uusimaa (region) article. --Thorri 16:39, 24 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Nylandia[edit]

What is the reason for naming all the other provinces with latin names in English Wikipedia (Ostrobothnia, Tavastia, etc.) but then Nylandia is called Uusimaa? --Migro (talk) 10:42, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Helsinki and Espoo[edit]

I want to remind that Espoo is in no way an actual city on its own but belongs instead to the Helsinki Metropolitan Region. Yes, it is an independent municipality, and the second largest in Finland, but physically it is obviously a part of the metropolitan region. Thus, should the first paragraph instead mention that Uusimaa contains the capital region which is the largest metropolitan area in Finland? Explaining about Espoo and Helsinki that way might seem like they were two cities of Uusimaa, located apart from each other and not sharing common city structure, which is anything but reality. --88.112.90.114 (talk) 20:56, 26 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Name, 2019[edit]

@Espoo: please request a move WP:RM for potentially controversial moves. The official 2019 classification name is still Uusimaa [2] according to Statistics Finland. The "Helsinki-Uusimaa region" one is used only by the council (maakuntaliitto). --Pudeo (talk) 13:39, 13 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

French language[edit]

So apparently, the Finnish census says there are more than 3,000 French speakers living in the this region, which is the majority of the 4,000-or-so French speakers in all of Finland. see here Does anyone know why? Can this be a statistical fluke or is there really a Francophone community there? Is it made up of Frenchmen? Africans? Arabs?
