Mei Pieh Chi

Venus' real name. They said it means "beautiful turtle of energy," but it really is just the Chinese words beauty, movement and life.

I've done research on Mei Pieh Chi's name. After lots of searching through lots of Chinese and Japanese dictionaries, research, etc, I found a symbol that can be transliterated as 'pieh' (the official pinyin is 'bie1', non-Chinese would pronounce it "bee-yeh" or "pee-yeh" as a close approximation, as b's and p's are both a close sound), that actually does mean 'turtle'. It was not easy to find, and only showed up in one very exhaustive dictionary, that contains at least five dialects of Chinese. I think it may be a smaller dialect in China, i.e., someone working on the show knew someone who (knew someone who) spoke Chinese and asked them, but they used their own local dialect (and they wouldn't necessarily know the correct pinyin transliteration, either, so they may have decided 'pieh' was close enough.

(This probably needs to be made into a redirect page)

The pinyin symbol for "pee-yeh" or turtle

This was originally on a seperate page titled Mei Pieh Chi, but makes for very little content and is definately unencyclopedic, having speculation and all. The Info could in this article in some fashion, but there's absolutely no sourcing or anysuch thing, so I leave it here for the world to see. --oknazevad 01:20, 8 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think you mean Hanzi (or CJK) symbol, since pinyin is just a way of representing Standard Mandarin using the Latin alphabet. My guess from the Wade-Giles-style transliterations used on the page would be Měi Bīe Qì, as it would be pretty much in line with the silly official interpretation if one accepts the distorted translation of Qi as "energy". I doubt there's any more insight or mystery behind the name than that - the obsolete style of romanisation is standard fare in popular culture since it's easier to pronounce for the English-speaking general public. Some letters in standard pinyin differ quite much from their general use in other languages. --Lorkki 22:55, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Just to follow up, two years later, my original post copied over another article written by another editor, and wasn't my work. Honestly, I know next to nothing about Chinese Romanization schemes.oknazevad (talk) 14:05, 28 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Life from 1997 to 2000[edit]

The "Life from 1997 to 2000" mentions website exclusive stories including Venus. Is there any proof those really existed?IchiGhost (talk) 17:28, 11 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Venus' Venerations have been accessible in the external links for some time, but I also added it to the references because it wasn't made clear. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.248.240.49 (talk) 16:45, 27 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Needs to be merged[edit]

To the list of characters and to the series' article too if needed. --194.145.185.229 (talk) 13:06, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
