I think is the other way: Wärtsilä is a manufacturere op large (diesel) engines and power plants... The core business of Wärtsilä still is marine diesel engines!! (edit by User:184.108.40.206)

In the engines article it says that the The largest version produces up 84.4 MW rather than the 80,080 kW (107,400 HP) claimed in this article? /discuss -- 220.127.116.11 (talk) 00:13, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

- Like (nearly) always in Finnish the pronunciation is straight forward: stress on first syllable, one sound per letter (and W is equal to V), short when the letter isn't doubled. I'm not good at IPA, but checking Finnish language I would guess at ['værtsilæ]. --LPfi (talk) 15:22, 10 January 2012 (UTC)
- I put a sentence or two about that in the marine section, sadly without sources (the years are from svwiki). I vaguely remember that 1/3 of the world's icebreakers in the 1980's were Finnish made, probably built at the Helsinki shipyard (I found a dozen Wärsilä made Russian icebreakers here at Wikipedia). The former Wärtsilä shipyard in Turku now building the largest cruise ships of the world is possible because of the cruiseferry traffic between Finland and Sweden and the preference for domestic shipyards at the time. --LPfi (talk) 11:24, 10 March 2011 (UTC)
- The most significant yards of Wärtsilä were the old Turku yard (former Crichton-Vulcan), Perno yard in the outskirts of Turku (today formarly called Turku Shipyard, as it is the only remaining one in the city; see the article in Finnish), Hietalahti shipyard and Vuosaari yard in Helsinki (the latter one was closed almost immediately when Wärtsilä got it) and the Kotka yard. There is an article about the sad end of Wärtsilä shipbuilding in Finnish, see fi:Wärtsilä Meriteollisuus.
- At least the history section should include the most important events of the shipbuilding (that ended to the spectacular bankruptcy in October 1989 and was continued by a new company Masa-Yards, see STX Finland for more details); currently there's no mention of shipbuilding in the history section. The company has during the years also had a number of other activities, in addition to shipbuilding and engines.
