Redirect[edit]

^^not mine, there are still lots of people throughout the world who hold this spiritual belief, and also - funny how indigenous people's spiritual beliefs are categorized as "myths or legends" in wikipedia, but not the events in the bible etc

much is discussed about multi-meanings of Hewbrew words and the vast variety of BIBLES only proves that everyone has an opinion. Wakan Tanka is the same way, it can mean the Great Mystery, the Great Spirit, the one who dwells in us all, the One God etc etc. To the one who gives Honor or Homage or worships the Wakan Tanka is honoring the creator, the great "I am" Yahwae or what you are best comfortable with using.... some give no honor ! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.155.203.106 (talk) 16:51, 15 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Wakan Tanka/ Great Spirit/Mystery[edit]

No, it basically means "ineffable," I think (since that sort of implies both "very important" and "incomprehensible"). As far as I can tell, the Sioux view of god(s) is sort of similar, in philosophy, to Neo-Platonism; their religious teachings involve statements that seem to be similar to the Platonic idea of Forms. ELOHIM is an "honorific plural" (somewhat like using "vous," the plural "you", to be polite in French) of the word LOAH, whose basic meaning seems to be "a god". The personal name of the Jews' God is YHWH, which means something like "I am," which may reflect the Jewish (and Christian) belief that God's nature is pure existence.
