[edit] Wayland Smith/Waylon Smithers?
I was sure I read that Smithers' name was related to Wayland the Smith. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.170.218.234 (talk) 20:24, 18 September 2010 (UTC)
- And you read that, where? CTJF83 chat 02:29, 19 September 2010 (UTC)
- I made the same assumption. It seems a hellova coincidence. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wayland's_Smithy 81.157.202.13 (talk) 10:43, 11 October 2011 (UTC)
[edit] Year of birth
He was born in 1954. In S08E21 (The Old Man and the Lisa). Burns blames Smithers for not forewarning him about the 1929 stockmarket crash. Smithers says the event was 25 years before he was born. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 116.30.148.107 (talk) 02:36, 1 January 2011 (UTC)
- Trivial, time in The Simpsons is always skewed. CTJF83 chat 17:36, 1 January 2011 (UTC)
[edit] "Flaming Moe"
Will the episode "Flaming Moe" lead to an update on his sexuality? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.1.66.28 (talk) 01:32, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
- What exactly needs to be updated? -- Scorpion0422 01:43, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
- I assume the IP means saying Smithers is gay. CTJF83 chat 01:47, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
- Smithers has basically been gay since the thirteenth season. I think the topic is touched on more than enough in the article. -- Scorpion0422 01:49, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
- I concur. CTJF83 chat 02:08, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
- I was just thinking the same thing -- this episode may be counted as his "coming out" episode. I think an update is called for. Seansinc (talk) 02:33, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
- I see no reason to update the article, as it already makes it clear that Smithers is pretty much gay with not subtle hints since around 2000. I'm suprised he was only added to Category:Fictional gay males very recently (i.e. last week), but mind, when I proposed adding him to LGBT characters (for which there is really no dispute), there was significant opposition. Sceptre (talk) 18:39, 21 January 2011 (UTC)
- In the classic era, there was an argument that he was just "Burns-sexual", but in the last ten years, Smithers has more or less been openly gay. Still, he hadn't come out yet, which is why I felt there was no need for the category. Besides, the article touches on the subject quite a bit, so I didn't see the big deal about having the category there. -- Scorpion0422 22:07, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
