FFC Trading as Western Bulldogs[edit]

Straight from the Financial Report For the year ended 31st Ooctober 2006 [1]

Footscray Football Club Ltd Trading as Western Bulldogs ABN 68 005 226 595

Why does the Wiki entry have the "official" name as Western Bulldogs FC formerly FFC ??? Can someone pls fix? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 58.107.229.21 (talk) 08:31, 2 April 2007 (UTC).[reply]

I agree Western Bulldogs FC is an incorrect term. Also first season 1925 is I believe misleading. More correctly, all AFL clubs pages should be changed so that it reads Joined VFL/AFL 1925. This page would benefit vastly from some VFA information and a reduction in non-eventful recent history information. Peter Rhode, for example, does not deserve a mention. (¬¬¬¬)

Image Woes[edit]

Someone should probably fix up the picture of the Whitten Oval entrance; it's rotated. I don't know how by the way.Jesterballz 13:02, 15 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

i removed the image, it didnt add anything to the article. And it was sideways because the image was uploaded to wikipedia that way. --Dan027 14:01, 15 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Footscray80s.png[edit]

Image:Footscray80s.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 09:27, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Article name[edit]

Is there any reason why the page is called Western Bulldogs and not Western Bulldogs Football Club? Almost all of the other teams have their articles named that way. Terlob (talk) 12:20, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Officially they are Footscray Football Club Ltd trading as the Western Bulldogs. πιππίνυ δ - (dica) 07:58, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fitzroy Bulldogs[edit]

Why isn't there a page created for the Fitzroy Bulldogs and/or the Bulldogs Fightback Foundation? They have pages on other would-be-merged teams such as the Melbourne Hawks.--kicka (talk) 00:58, 16 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

File:Western Bulldogs Jumper.svg Nominated for speedy Deletion[edit]

An image used in this article, File:Western Bulldogs Jumper.svg, has been nominated for speedy deletion at Wikimedia Commons for the following reason: Copyright violations
What should I do?
Speedy deletions at commons tend to take longer than they do on Wikipedia, so there is no rush to respond. If you feel the deletion can be contested then please do so (commons:COM:SPEEDY has further information). Otherwise consider finding a replacement image before deletion occurs.

Why Western Bulldogs?[edit]

Why did the club change its name to Western Bulldogs? The article tells me when it happened, but not why. HiLo48 (talk) 08:43, 30 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Changed lead[edit]

I am changing the lead to

The Western Bulldogs (formerly Footscray Football Club[a][1]) is a professional ...

Because the title of the article is Western Bulldogs and most people refer to them as Western Bulldogs. The ABN states that the name of the parent company is "Footscray Football Club Limited" but the article is about the AFL team (owned by the company), not the larger company which now runs several other businesses such as hotels and a travel agent, and on the ABN page it lists "Western Bulldogs" as a "business" of theirs. I am also changing the infobox to reflect this. If anyone disagrees feel free to revert until consensus is reached. Cheers MarkiPoli (talk) 07:41, 7 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  1. ^ "Footscray Football Club Limited" is the name of their parent company according to their ABN which also includes businesses such as hotels and a travel agent. The official name of the AFL team in particular is "Western Bulldogs". The VFL reserves team is called the Footscray Football Club. On the back neck of their AFL jumpers there is the initials "FFC"

Singular is or plural are?[edit]

Although it isn't obvious because of the parentheses, the page begins with "The Western Bulldogs (...) is". "Bulldogs is" makes no grammatical sense and it should probably say "the Western Bulldogs are": "bulldogs" is a plural noun. On the other hand the word "club" is singular. The club is and the Bulldogs are. (Ignore this if you want, this doesn't really matter anyway. Just saying) §pur§y§ituation§ (talk) 04:32, 8 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It starts: The Western Bulldogs (formerly the Footscray Football Club).... so it's pretty clear that it's the name of a football club.
While I'm here, I think I caught a bit of vandalism the past half hour or so, and reverted it, but forgot to mention what I was doing in the tag, so apologies for that. πιππίνυ δ - (dica) 12:15, 30 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed Mick Malthouse picture[edit]

I'm bringing this here because it's one of the clubs Mick has been associated with. I'm just seeking a few more views on a discussion underway about an image an editor has proposed for the article. See the article history and the Tak page. HiLo48 (talk) 03:16, 31 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The Whitten Oval is in West Footscray, not Footscray![edit]

The club was not, as claimed, based in Footscray, but West Footscray which was the location of the old Botanic Gardens/Whitten Oval. Though both were located within the old City of Footscray (now Maribyrnong) which was at the time its namesike. It is factually incorrect to claim that the club was based in its suburb just because it is its namesake. Rulesfan (talk) 03:10, 21 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

That concern seems a bit nitpicky. Is the Geelong Football Club based in Geelong or South Geelong? HiLo48 (talk) 04:21, 21 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
