The people of the French Westhoek or Dunkirk are struggling to preserve their language (West Flemish) before it goes into complete disuse, if not total extinction. The local governments in the Nord (59) departement with the N-PdC regional authorities refused or rejected proposals to give the West Flemish language any co-official usage in public services. The Belgian Westhoek or Adinmeli from the terms Adinkerke or Ad(in)/en-ke(ki)-rk(e) and Meli-Park, are also considering to further recognize the small minority whom speak the Picard language or "Ch'ti (mi)" which is different from standard French as much Walloon is and like West Flemish differs from Dutch. + 71.102.7.77 (talk) 19:32, 7 March 2010 (UTC)
