Forbidden / Blocked link - I can't reference my edit!!![edit]

http://www.l o w c a r b.ca/corpulence/corpulence_full.html ...

I cannot post any references to this. The link is to the fulltext of bantings Letter on Corpulence, FOURTH Edition, the preface of which contains much biographical material, acknowledgements of Dr Harvey's sources and other interesting information. www.lowcarb.ca may be a controversial site for some, but it reeks of censorship to continue blocking the posting of links to this site. After all, if you are prevented from referencing things from certain sources, is this not opening the door to bias? Is someone able to fix this block? Low Carb vs Low Glycaemic Index?[edit]

Banting's diet is based on avoiding sugar altogether, rarely having flour and limiting root vegegables. It is not primarily a low carb diet, and as such it is more in the direction of a low glycaemic index (GI) diet. But of course, the Low GI diet is usually co-packaged with a low-fat approach. Banting's dietary approach thus seems to fall somewhere in the middle. Petlif (talk) 22:57, 9 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

SPAM on link[edit]

I replaced a link because a previous editor found it got caught by a spam filter. That site gets a green check mark from my McAfee SiteAdvisor. So all I can say is sorry about that, it caught me by surprise; even though I did do due diligence, or thought I had. The new link leads to a page identical in appearance to the old. It too is green on McAfee's checker. Navy.enthusiast (talk) 19:21, 4 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

More on a modern view[edit]

Has any modern research been conducted on the effectiveness and/or safety of the diet Banting advocated? I think it would be an excellent thing to include, if the data is available.

Banting in Swedish language[edit]

In Swedish the words "banta" (to lose weight) and "bantning" (method for loosing weight) is derived from Bantings name. Maybe this should be mentioned in the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.228.243.85 (talk) 08:36, 23 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Revisionist history?[edit]

To simply say that it was the first low refined-carb diet is a bit revisionist. Among the largest changes Banting made was eliminating milk and butter from his diet, and his diet included 2 ounces of bread a day. (Also, first? https://archive.org/stream/letteroncorpulen00bantrich#page/42/mode/2up mentions a diet approved by John Jackson found in the work of John Sinclair that predated Banting's and was similarly low refined-carb; it permitted only stale bread.) --Elvey (talk) 21:47, 11 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
