Confusion[edit]

This is confusing:

".....then to the Willamette Valley of Oregon, to the Palouse country...."

It makes it seem as though the Palouse is in the Willamtte Valley.

"La Follette was born in Thorntown, Indiana, near Shammondale, Boone County, Indiana."

This comes straight from the Congressional Bio, but it's confusing and probably inaccurate. First of all, there's a town called Shannondale[1] right on the Boone County/Montgomery County line, but no "Shammondale" anywhere in Indiana. At present, there is a LaFollette farm in Boone County between Shannondale and Dover which has been in family hands since the 1830s. Thorntown is the closest town of any size. It's likely that he was born on the farm and went to school in Thorntown.

I went ahead and made a slight edit to correct the parts that are obviously wrong. It would be good to do a little research and determine where the Congressman was actually born (and see about getting it corrected in his Congressional biography, too.)
