William Wither BeachBramston Beach – His full name was William Wither Bramston (Hicks-)Beach, but he was known as Bramston rather than by either of his first two names. A hatnote can then point to the place in Queensland. Opera hat (talk) 14:49, 8 June 2019 (UTC) --Relisting. Steel1943 (talk) 17:35, 24 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

This is a contested technical request (permalink). (Pinging requester Opera hat.) Steel1943 (talk) 00:25, 9 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Needs discussion in case opposition arises or references are found that enforce either side for verifiability. Steel1943 (talk) 00:25, 9 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
...In addition, Bramston Beach is currently a redirect that targets Bramston Beach, Queensland. Steel1943 (talk) 13:29, 9 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Is there a reason why he would be the primary topic over the location? --Yaksar (let's chat) 03:59, 9 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • I struggle to see why this politician should be primary. I think the norms of English are such that anyone seeing "Whatever Beach" will be expecting a sandy seaside not a politican. But I'm not going to argue that the beach is primary either. I doubt most people have heard of either of them so there is no "primary". Just hatnote both of them and/or make this a disambig page. If it is demonstrable that the politician was known as Bramston Beach, then he can be disambiged as Bramston Beach (politician) or whatever. Kerry (talk) 06:39, 9 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I was rather surprised that of all the links to Bramston Beach, Queensland only two were redirects from Bramston Beach. WP:Parenthetical disambiguation should be avoided if possible, so I suppose I thought as "Bramston Beach" was near-enough unused as an article title then it could be used for this article. But Bramston Beach as a disambiguation page and Bramston Beach (politician) for the MP would work too, if neither is the primary topic. Opera hat (talk) 12:12, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Bill to amend the Ground Game Act 1880 brought in by […] Mr Bramston Beach, 14 February 1896; Aldershot Gas and Water Petition […] ordered to be brought in by Mr Bramston Beach, 22 February 1901; The Right Honourable W. W. Bramston Beach, M. P. sworn of the new Privy Council, 4 March 1901. Who Was Who entry confirms that Bramston was a Christian name not an additional surname. • Support per nom. He was a very long-serving MP and Privy Councillor, so I think it's fair enough that he's primary over a beach. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:28, 26 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment. I think the beach may have served longer and continues to provide a sandy surface for your holiday pleasures. Seriously though, unless we are dealing with some extremely well-known topics like Apple the fruit and Apple the IT company, there isn’t a need for a primary topic determination. Most people have heard of neither the politician nor the beach, so the situation requires a simple disambiguation. It’s not a competition of “my topic is more important than yours”. Kerry (talk) 22:24, 27 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose – A primarytopic grab at leasts needs a multi-RM to inform the article whose title is being stolen. So this is a malformed RM. Dicklyon (talk) 03:35, 6 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
No-one is suggesting moving the Bramston Beach, Queensland article, so why would a multi-RM be appropriate? And there has been a notification on that article's talk page since 9 June. Opera hat (talk) 13:01, 6 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Article title[edit]

Well, after that discussion got bogged down in primary topic issues, the article is still at a title with names he did not use (William Wither) and not the one he did (Bramston). Even William Wither Bramston Beach would be better than the current title. I'm moving it to Bramston Beach (politician) – I can't see why anyone would have a problem with that, but if you do, then move it back and I'll start another RM.
