clarify please?[edit]

I came across this article while surfing random articles - not being a rugby fan, the "infamous 99 call" makes no sense to me. I have links for other terms like "try" to help me understand them, but not 99. Searching, I could find no unlinked article for it either. If it's so infamous as to deserve comment, could an explanation (even a brief one) be added please?

From memory it was similar to a play call in American Football, called by the captain prior to a set piece. Basically it was a call to assault opposing players.--ukexpat 14:16, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
This article needs a lot of cleaning-up, as much of the stuff about physical violence is undocumented (even if it is 'generally' agreed that the South Africa tour in 1974 was intensely physical) bigpad 09:26, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
