Windows file types[edit]

Should it be swapped so it is sorted by file extension rather than by program name? RJFJR 16:49, 11 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Many of these formats are not even supported on a "clean" install of Windows, and many of them work on other platforms (Linux, Mac...) as well. I think these formats should be copied over to the List of file formats, if they aren't already there, and this page should be removed. --85.226.77.40 18:54, 28 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm inclined to agree with that statement

I agree, this list is covered in List of file formats already. WarBaCoN 00:46, 24 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
ok, moved all verifiable over, except MS Visio (couldn't determine where to put it)... WarBaCoN 05:40, 24 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

windows file types[edit]

I think, better is to reorganize this list to only clear Microsoft Windows related file types/extensions.

yes, but....[edit]

Yes, but, it's useful to have the dot BEFORE the extension (e.g., .pdf) rather than without (PDF) as in the other list. So if you merge, please in the format: .pdf —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.79.57.206 (talk) 21:48, 18 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There are lots of pages we could merge[edit]

together

Wasn't there a special autosort table for these cases? You click in a button in the header and it sorts alphabetically according to that field. That would end as well the problem in other talk page about sorting by extension or description (or even MIME type) Nethac DIU ([[User talk:Nethac DIU|¿?), wuz heer about 00:50, 19 March 2010 (UTC) (slight edit)[reply]

We could as well include a field for stating if it is used on Microsoft programs, pre-installed on Ubuntu, third-parties running under Windows... but possibly that should be covered in each programs article.

Sorry about my clumsiness talking, I had to edit this three times. Nethac DIU ([[User talk:Nethac DIU|¿?), wuz heer about 00:53, 19 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have just been cleaning up the style of List of file types, and my work will probably be helpful for machine reformatting to a table. The relationship between file types and file extensions is many-to-many, so while merging those pages seems like a worthy goal, that is going to be very, very tricky to get right. I've proposed to delete this hopeless list and added a note on your talk page: Obviously not your fault, but you're the last registered editor doing anything useful with the article in this decade. –89.204.153.136 (talk) 05:05, 26 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for pinging me. Idea: since you feel something should be done, might I suggest that you complete step IV of the proposed WP:MERGE? Carry over anything unique on this list, post edit summaries that accurately reflect what happened, and redirect this article rather than simply deleting it?
