Requested move 21 July 2015[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: no consensus. No consensus that the company isn't the primary topic. I'd suggest a separate RM to discuss whether W00t should be moved away from the non-"leet" spelling, but there was also no consensus that it was the primary topic. – Given the popularity of the slang term w00t, I cannot see the article for the company that is currently residing at the article name Woot being the primary topic. (In fact, the company article almost looks like blatant advertising, but that's a discussion for another day.) In fact, there may even be a possibility that W00t could be the primary topic (and then it would either be moved to Woot or Woot would become a redirect to W00t); however, my vote goes to moving the disambiguation page to the base title since the company seems to be the first thing that appears when I search the term "woot" on search engines, but it is rather apparent that the company's name came from the term "w00t" given that the company was founded after the term was supposedly invented. • support and W00t to W00t (slang term) In ictu oculi (talk) 23:40, 21 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Per [1] the company's name is one of the seven or eight given (and mostly unsourced) meanings of w00t. Woot the company is hovering around 500 on alexa (around 520) and is related to 10 of the top 11 search results on google (logged out, incognito mode) for "woot". I think the company may be more well known at this point.--Michael Greiner 02:28, 22 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support and move W00t to W00t (slang term). Khestwol (talk) 16:05, 23 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. There aren't many articles that present ambiguity here; most of what's on the disambiguation page at partial title matches, not things generally known as "Woot". There's definitely no need to move w00t; the zeros distinguish it already from all other articles. Hat notes at the articles will serve readers as well as a dab page.--Cúchullain t/c 15:08, 30 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Alternative proposal: "W00t" is a hackish/leet spelling used on the Internet, and doesn't appear to have anything intrinsic to do with the utterance, which is used by gazillions of people in vocal speech, without ever having seen such a spelling. The slang term article should be at Woot per the general MOS provision against trying to emulate optional stylistic quirks. Precedent: Note that "leet" is at the article title Leet, not 1337, l33t, 1334, or any of the other hackish spellings. Fix its lead to say "Woot (often styled w00t, with zeroes) ...". Put the company at Woot (company). Leave Woot (disambiguation) where it is, especially since so many entries on it are not "woot", but "Woot.", "WOOT", etc.  — SMcCandlish ¢ ≽ʌⱷ҅ʌ≼  00:17, 2 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
That makes sense to me as regards to the slang term, but looking at the page views I don't see a need to move the company.[2][3] The slang term could go to "Woot (slang).--Cúchullain t/c 18:10, 6 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I'd move the company because several orders of magnitude people are more familiar with the slang utterance than with the company, so it can't be the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, surely.  — SMcCandlish ¢ ≽ʌⱷ҅ʌ≼  13:46, 9 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
That isn't borne out by page view evidence: Woot receiveds twice the page views of w00t. Of course some number of readers will come to woot looking for the slang term, but there were only 620 views of the dab page in 90 days, which suggests that not a substantial number are getting confused by the current setup.--Cúchullain t/c 13:03, 10 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
